each shield brings with it the food, supplies, and portable shelter it would need for survival for a time until they can get re supplied

Weaponry

the common soldiers uses sword and spear, with more specialist weapons like halberds, slings, and runecasters, to the specialists detachments in each shield

Structure

each shield is led by a high-captain, who have 5 lochatos, medium ranked commanders under them. each of the lochatos have 2 sub-commanders under them

Tactics

Each shield has a focus on defensive tactics, from testudo formations, pike lines, and shield walls, with archer and sling support for ranged. The Northern bulwark shares a military doctrine of outlasting their foe and providing slow, consistent preasure. As well, each sheild has adapted its strategy based on their speciality. The 7th shield, focusing in dealing with the local elemetntals in the ice desert, friendly and enemy, has adapted their fighting style to be better at low visiblity fighting and taking down large targets, while the 5th shield focuses on siege warfare, having more siege engines and more aggressive combat.

Training

every member of the shield is recruited from the local militias given a proper 6 months of military training, and taught the rest by experience and their commanders.

Upkeep

each soldier is given payment in food and other resources given to their families or companions, as well a promise of being well fed while in the shield.

Recruitment

the shields recruit from the better trained fighters of each cities militia, as well as those from the various military academies in the nation
