Thedas

Created by

The setting of the Dragon Age video game series by Bioware, Thedas is the continent on which several countries exist: Anderfels, Antiva, Ferelden, Free Marches, Nevarra, Orlais, Par Vollen, Rivain, and the Tevinter Empirium, along with the underground dwarven kingdom of Orzammar. It is assumed that there are other continents, but none that the characters of the games know of, so it is safe to assume that they have a poor knowledge of maritime transportation. Dragon Age: Origins is set in Ferelden, Dragon Age: Two is set in the city of Kirkwall in the Free Marches, and Dragon Age: Inquisition is set in both Ferelden and Orlais.   The religion of each civilization has some amazing theology. Most humans and some dwarves are Andrastian, which worships the Maker and his prophet-bride Andraste, and is headed by the Chantry. The elves worship a pantheon of gods called the Evanuris, consisting of nine deities. It is later revealed that they were not gods, but merely immensely powerful mages. The Qunari follow the governance of the Qun, a philosophy, set of laws, and a social architecture.   Humans are the most powerful and plentiful species, and control all but Par Vollen and Orzammar. The Qunari are centered in Par Vollen, and are known to have more knowledge of the world and science. Dwarves are located both all around Thedas and in Orzammar. Those who choose to come above ground are known as surface dwarves, and are not allowed to return to Orzammar.   This is a world where magic is found, although mages are feared and closely watched. This system is not good for anyone and causes a lot of tension in the games, eventually leading to a Mage rebellion.   I would like to add that this is not my original concept. The reason that I'm using this world is for fanfiction. I own nothing but my own main characters and some of the dialogue.
