Charon the Dead, sometimes known as the Duelist of Death, is an elusive apparition that comes to challenge certain dying individuals before they pass on. As to how he chooses his targets is unknown, but his continuity of appearing at sites of mass death is unwavering.

Old Ways

Charon the Dead adpots the mannerisms of an ancient culture, many of his actions and tendencies basing themselves upon a sense of formality or respect, even his manner of engaging his victims trends along a pattern of sometimes irrational courtesy before foregoing any facade to slay his victims, the illusion proving itself unnecessary as the cruel being behind it is revealed.
Charon has also been lamented by those he attacks, shortly before their deaths if questioned in time, that his attire is particularly old, any form he takes is adorned with the clothing and uniform of various ranks and roles dating back to before even the time of The Old Empire.

Dance of the Damned

Charon, through what little information can be acquired, follows an entirely unique ritual of combat before taking his victims, challenging them to personal combat for their life, waiting until they fall to defeat before he claims them. This has often led to strange views from people witnessing his cruel game, as they see a dying acquaintance or friend suddenly rejuvinated with life as they dance around bearing an invisible weapon, frequent wounds appearing upon their already battered body as they argue with an unseen foe.

Charon has been observed to have a particularly macabre fascination with the lifeforce of dying individuals, collecting it like a historian gathers ancient artifacts. As to what he does when he succesfully claims it is...unknown. All that has been discovered is he sends the collected lifeforce to a dimensional pocket known as Dead Man's Hole, an abyssal area where the lifeforce is left to toil as Charon drains it over time. This is believed to also be the source of the forms he takes, the variability being caused by the lifeforce he is currently consuming.

Soul Trader

Although Charon seems to pick his targets specifically, some individuals involved in the Soul Trade have noted that he is not avert to selling this Lifeforce for either more apetising targets, information or certain rare artifacts. As to what end Charon makes these deals for is unknown, but observers have lamented upon a few small patterns emerging in his trading, which is believed to be a part of some larger conspiracy.
