Ringday, the 7th day of Frost, 4078 Waking the following morning, Hasdraek resumes his climb up the main chamber stairs. After a couple of hours, he reaches a landing with a door. The wind howls outside and he hears voices. Familiar voices. Grigg Nenser is in a heated conversation with someone superior to him in rank. “What do you mean you have not found it yet?”
“We’ve search everywhere lord, it simply is not th...”
“Search again! I need that artifact found! Time is slipping away from me, and this opportunity will not return in my lifetime. And certainly not in yours should you fail me again, blood hunter”.
“Yes lord...” his words are interrupted by a puffing noise and a sudden quiet.
Indistinct voices are heard further away: a youthful, mocking voice, and a steely female voice. Hasdraek goes invisible. He opens the door and lets it slam inward from the power of the wind. He is on some kind of platform of the tower. Still invisible, Hasdraek stalks Grigg, Naltica Shooth, and her son Strellick - whom he now recognizes as the three who tortured him back in Beargrove - while exploring the platform he is on. He is near the very top of the tower. Listening on their conversation, he learns that they are looking for the artifact that he himself may be carrying - an object that was given to him in Gimblestone, following his liberation of the town. Three Hippogriffs are tied to ringbolts on the platform. He finds a door that the other three were not able to open. The door seems to open magically for him. He climbs to the very top of the tower and finds a wizard circle with a pedestal at its middle, and recognizes that his artifact must fit there. Grigg appears, then, curious and afraid, but resolute. Hasdraek prepares to ambush him.
