Episode L028: The Dragon and the Neothelid
General Summary
Malanroot Tower
Thumbday, the 5th day of Frost, 4078 Hasdraek revels in the mountains of gold that he has just found, hidden within the tower. It must surely be the hoard of the dragon Zorrosolasthoosoch. Suddenly a voice speaks to him, a voice of great and irresistible power. It is the dragon, and it asks him to find and destroy the stone that holds him imprisoned. Hasdraek fights the almost overwhelming urge to do what he is told. He wakes up in the fountain chamber, with no recollection of having found the chamber.
Littleday, the 6th day of Frost, 4078 Hasdraek resumes his journey ever upward, when he encounters the balcony with his own rope tied to the balustrade, he is puzzled but he takes his rope and continues moving upward. Arriving at the top of this flight of stairs, he sees a statue resembling the wizard Iphigenia Amitee in a dead end of the corridor. He deposits one of the fruits from the tree into the statue's outstretched palm, and a secret door opens. At last, Hasdraek finds himself at the ground floor of the tower, wind whistles under the great double doors to the north, and strange statues litter the cavernous entrance chamber. Hasdraek is attacked by two gargoyles. He kills one and chases the other off. Suddenly a huge worm slithers forward and attacks. Hasdraek fights valiantly, and is even swallowed once, and regurgitated, but he is no match for the monster and flees. Then he hears the sound of one of the other statues coming to life. Fearing he will not be able to fight two monsters at once, he hides as best he can in the shadows, not knowing that the neothelid can sense intelligence up to a mile away. However, the other statue that has come to life attacks the neothelid, killing it, before returning to its pedestal. Hasdraek falls into a deep and restorative slumber.
