Era beginning/end

This event is what can really be marked as the beginning of the end. The first city to fall to the virus.

After the fall of (city) there was a significant recognition and interest in why such a well-established location would collapse out of nowhere. It also served as a chain reaction, as curious people went to see what they could piece together about the mystery, and ended up carrying the virus to different locations. The virus quickly spread from there, as no-one had any idea what was happening and reacted far too slow to prevent the decay of their crops and other plant life and further contamination.
