Marchland Republic

Structure

The Marchland Republic is governed by the Council of Ministers, who are elected by the people to serve 4 year terms. Every 6 years, a new National Director is elected from the ranks of the Councilmen to serve as the head of state.

Culture

Having only relatively recently moved on from the abdicated monarchy, the Marchlandic are fiercely defensive of their new democracy. It is a tremendous point of pride for the people, and has brought newfound prosperity since the first order of the new republican government was to abolish serfdom.

Military

The Marchlands have a professional standing army which is open to join to any citizen who can pass the physical rigors of boot camp. The Marchlands do reserve the right to enact a draft in the event of extreme danger to the nation.

Religion

Freedom of religion is permitted in the Marchlands, and religious tolerance is a virtue to which many Marchlandic citizens aspire.

Foreign Relations

Being a highly functioning democracy, governments of the other Western Kingdoms are worried about the Marchlands’ success, fearful that it may inspire other democratic movements throughout the region. As such, much of Marchlandic foreign policy revolves around political and military maneuvers to dissuade would be attackers. Officially, the Marchlands’ official stance is that they support peace throughout the region. Unofficially, rumors of their support for the revolutionaries in Franka are appearing to be truer and truer as the National Assembly increasingly expands its control over the state.

Agriculture & Industry

While still largely agrarian, economic focuses in the Marchlands are changing.

Trade & Transport

Since the transition to the republican government, the Marchlands have become a larger hub of regional trade as regulation of contracts is more strictly enforced.
