Grom

“If the only thing these savages respect is strength, then I’ll show them strength.” –Rubilev Rostov, Novori general, moments before being slain

Structure

Grom is a series of tribal confederations which have banded together for mutual support and military aid. Every year, the chiefs of each individual tribe meet to elect a new leader or confirm reelection of the sitting leader. Any chief who wishes to usurp the current leader may do so at any time by challenging him and defeating him in single combat, though the leader does reserve the right to call on a champion to fight in his place.

Culture

The people of Grom were originally nomads from the south who fled their lands due to a series of natural disasters, and settled in the east. The Gromish are uncivilized by international standards, especially those of the Western Kingdoms. The various societies are arranged into tribes based on ancestry and various cultural differences, and have names such as “Red Lion” and “Sheepdog.” Grom lacks major “cities” in the traditional sense, as the Gromish prefer small, reverse-engineerable structures and tents in case they are ever forced to return to their nomadic ways.

Military

What the Gromish tribes lose in strategy and discipline, they make up in sheer ferocity. Because the lands of Grom are mountainous and difficult to navigate, foes are typically forced to meet Gromish forces in forests or tight open fields and valleys, their favored terrain. This makes Grom difficult to fight for even the most advanced armies.

Religion

The Gromish worship the ancient gods, forest spirits, ghosts of ancestors, and animal totems.

Foreign Relations

The Gromish prefer to keep to themselves and typically only meet with foreign envoys at their request, avoiding embassies or diplomats of their own.

Trade & Transport

While some Gromish tribes have recently been willing to accept foreign, coin-based currency, most Gromish still use a barter system.
