The World of Aeddemel

Created by

"A world touched by the Gods, for better or for worse. Aeddemel is torn between the veil of light and dark, a bitter struggle for supremacy between the Goddesses of Light, and the darkest entities that dwell within the hearts of all.   This world is to become a battlefield, where the fate of all who live upon it will be decided. Those who stand, those who fight, and those who seek to bring the peace, shall be remembered for their sacrifices...   For we all lose something in the eternal struggle."   -The Prophet of Vinthras

Aeddemel.
Vessel of the Light.
The Dark Seed.
The Eternal Battlefield.
The First World.   Aeddemel has many names, but the one that it is most known by is simply 'home'. The world is a vast spanning celestial body with five large land masses dotted through the emerald green oceans, each continent hosting a variety of biomes ranging from the chilly peaks to the deepest depths of the blackened Bladegarden. The physical beauty of the world however, is marred by the one thing that haunts all who dwell upon its surface.   Magic.
Sorcery.
The Curse.   On Aeddemel, magic is a wild, untapped thing that can be "tamed" by those who are knowledgeable, or by those "gifted" by being Weave-Touched. Where in most worlds, one might see magic as a simple thing, being used to enhance the daily lives of its people with mundane items such as torches that never extinguish, or even clothes that repair themselves, it is a very different story on Aeddemel. An event known as the Sundering tore the very fabric of the Weave apart, splintering its threads and causing irreparable damage to it, forever shattering the possible peace between it and the natural world. Weavers seek to bring the threads back together, using their limited knowledge of the grand streams and lines that course through the world, but none have been so lucky as to achieve total mastery over it, or even come close.   It has been weaponized, utilized as a force of destruction, or one that could benefit those who wield it, but many have shunned it, and in many countries it is even restricted to those who are under the watchful eye of the Lords and Weavers in charge. Some view this as tyrannical rule, locking away knowledge and abilities. Many more view it as a necessary act, keeping the forces of chaos and destruction at bay.   One thing can not be denied however, and that is the destructive nature of magic. When the tides rise, and the Weave expands, it causes all sorts of foul reactions in the material realm. The fabric of reality shifts and cracks, allowing foul entities to pass through from their worlds, wreaking havoc upon the denizens of the world. The foul influence of the dark entities that dwell beyond the veil use these times to spread their foul will, and darken the minds and souls of the populace.   Despite the darkness that dwells, the world stands strong, holding onto the faith that the Goddesses and the respective pantheons of the continent are watching over them.

And so too does the darkness watch them.
