“Thank you for reading, brave adventurers, this issue I bring you to, in my eyes, the radiant jewel of The Pact, beautiful and friendly Tempesta! This is a specail entry for me, as many of you know. Tempesta is my home. Even as I venture out to the perilous edges of our world, the image of the sea crashing against the mighty cliffs of my homeland bring me solace. If there is ever a place all must visit before meeting the gods, it is Tempesta.
Tempesta is an young coalition, one of the first last human powers to form on Pyrennia. It’s brave populace of sailors, merchants, and priests have a richly storied past. For many nefarious elements envy the pristine lands of Tempesta, causing the nation to be pecked at from all sides at different times in history.
Further out to sea pirates roam in great number, their flotilla a truly dangerous and elusive adversary. In the frigid north, Mong-Karr Viking warbands raid along the coast causing havoc and misery. To the east, the Goblinoid Confederacy raids and plunders.
Tempestans do not fear these foes, instead choosing to meet them head on in a glorious storm of steel. Tempesta is a famous breeding ground for legendary soldiers and sailors. The Tempestans possess the mightiest of all human fleets by far, though rumors of the Elven fleet spur it to even greater size. Until the day comes when those dastardly elves find passage into the seas of The Pact, Tempesta rules the sea.
Tempesta has two primary governing leaders. One political, The Doge, leader of a oligarchic cabal of governors running each settlement. The other is religious, The Pope, a holy icon and leader of the priesthood. Since the dawn of the nation, both sides have ruled in tandem like two sides of the same coin.
Speaking of coin, Tempesta is where the concept of wealth itself was manifested, or so I’d like to think. As the governors of the open seas, Tempestans enjoy first rate shipping lanes, transit, and trade. Only the riches of Aljann compare, and Tempesta achieves it with no slaves! We have much to thank to the great companies and businesses that reside within our cities.
