Common Legends and Lore: Sangovy Province

“Thank you for reading, brave adventurers, this issue I bring you to the beating heartland of humanity, the dark briars of Sangovy Province. This has been a much anticipated entry, as many of my readers hail from the tiny villages and hamlets strung throughout the region.
All lands I’ve travelled through and documented thus far in my life have had complicated, intricate pasts, but most pale in comparison to the history of Sangovy, a history which has brought into shape all parts of the society which inhabits it today. It was only a handful of generations ago that the Vampire Blood Lords ruled over all of The Briar. For many hundreds of years they preyed on the helpless villagers, until a vast rebellion occurred. The war was bloody, and though humans outnumbered vampire three dozen to one, they were only able to push the vampire overlords to a standstill.
Ten years of war ravaged Sangovy Province. For the humans, constant warfare had depleted their supplies and led to poor harvests, starving them. For the vampires, they too starved from lack of fresh human blood. Both sides agreed to a truce, and thus the Sangovy Accords were signed.
The Sangovy Accords were as follow:
1. A council of Human Beings will run the administration of the region
2. The Blood Lords will renounced all titles of significance and seclude themselves in a recognized vampire hold, of which no violence from humans may occur.
3. Each settlement over 1,000 in population must have one, and only one Vampire delegate.
4. Vampires may not feed on, or otherwise harm an innocent human.
5. Humans must provide the Vampires with a steady source of blood, either by ritualistic sacrifice, livestock, game, or prisoners.
Today the Accords hold strong, and peace between Human and Vampire have been maintained, though ever since joining the Pact of the Fist, the human alliance, relations have begun to sour, as vampires get nervous about the increasing power of humanity against the slowly declining influence of the vampires.
The people of Sangovy are notoriously warm and welcoming, with a strong sense of familial and communal bonds, for the briar is a dangerous place. All manner of beast roam in the misty forest, ready to feed on any villager who strays from the safety of his village. Because of this, travel within the region is particularly dangerous, especially further south near Bubblegut Swamp. It is said most villagers in Sangovy these days never meet their neighbors in the village just a few miles away.
Sangovy Province also contains the largest city in the known world, itself named Sangovy. The sprawling, dense city was once the seat of Vampiric Power during the time of the Blood Lords, and was built by hundreds of years of slave labor. Today it is a hub of commerce and government, taking on the daunting task of administrating such a perilous and isolated province. The city of Sangovy itself is so grand, frankly it deserves it’s own entry, which in time, I will write. Until next time, brave adventurers!”
