West Ilandian Mallardist-Communist Party

One of Ilandia's few remaining important communist parties

Public Agenda

The West Ilandian Mallardist-Communist Party, MCP, is one of the few remaining big communist parties in Ilandia.   It believes in Neo-Mallardism, a libertarian variant of communism, close to socialism. The party has, in accordance with spiritual father Thomas Mallard's ideas, its own civil militia and believes in communism through democracy.   The civil militia, altough armed, normally only does community work and/or recruits young men to join the army.

Assets

The party has:
  • a few clubhouses spread over the west of West Ilandia
  • a headquarters in Alworth
  • 645 militiamen
  • 1 seat in the Parliament

History

The party is the most important communist party in the Clereotonese, Bramle and Watford Provinces and was founded in 1979, after the laws on forming political parties were relaxed and it became possible for anyone to form a party and splinter groups of large parties could form their own parties. One of these splinter groups was Mallardism. Mallard's ideas were still pretty popular in the rural areas of western West Ilandia, and so a prominent communist politician, Joseph Miccini, founded the MCP there. At first the party struggled to compete with other communist parties, but during the mid-80s the party became the major communist party of (West) Ilandia, and in 1985 they won the regional elections in the Clereotonese and Bramle Provinces,  they got 56% of the votes in these provinces. The party got five seats in parliament (5% of the votes) after the 1986 federal elections, at its prime. In the following elections the MCP was reduced to a rather regional party.   In the summer of 2004 the chairman of the MCP, Wilfred Alphonsen, was involved in a corruption scandal and was forced to resign.
