Paladins

The Paladins are the foremost members of courts in the Wandering Expanse. They first appeared in the Human Empires of the Legend Era, where they played to role of defenders of the realm sent from the gods. The different courts they represented, whether it be political, spiritual, or idealistically, vary between oaths, which each paladin most take, but there are always twelve members. The idea of paladin courts spread from the human empires to the elf and orc empires, however no other races picked it up until the Great Split. In Current History, the court and oath systems remain. Paladins form courts to bestow the ancient knowledge of their particular oath and its powers on to the next generation.
The powers that the paladins wield is divine magic that imbues their weapons with grand smiting power. Some also possess nature, healing, and energy stealing abilities.
