The Wilds

They named it, the Division. An event so disastrous that it caused the eradication of the vast majority of the human race. It lit up the sky a thousand colours before raining hellfire down upon the land and sea. Beasts mutated into colossal titans that swept across the now ruined world that once provided humans with crops and sustenance.   Billions of lives were lost. Cities were returned to the soil. Elite rulers were scorched alive within their iron fortresses while peasants burned in the slums. Ash swept across the sky for centuries after and the air grew foul, corrupting it until it became toxic to breathe. However, despite the inhospitable conditions now found throughout the world, there were survivors.   While some found refuge in the shadowed corners of the world, behind immense walls or deep below the earth, most did not and as a result of rapid evolution or some other force, a change occurred within them. Some that did survive the initial destruction soon became corrupted, both in body and mind....   Six millennia have now passed since The Great Extinction ravaged the land and humanity has slowly recovered its numbers. Though scars of the past still stretch vividly across the lands. Ancient cities lay in ruin telling forgotten tales of past kingdoms while misshaped creatures roam the world, changed from the events that occurred so long ago. Even the terrain would seem a stranger to human eyes; warped beyond recognition. And sat watching from the far northern corner of the world sits Laston...a shipwreck harbouring some of the last of humanity.
