The KRVE
A Valley of Broken Kings; Inheritors of an Ancient Oath and Forgotten Order; a Monstrous Land with Hidden Sins and Buried Evils.
Centuries before the current borders, before polite virtues and sweet words, constant conflicts defined the Petty Kingdoms. A time of Wars between Families, not countries. Battles of Men, not armies; of Quiet Ambition, not intrigue. Kingdoms rose and fell with the seasons; and so it was that when one stayed for a time it gathered enmity and, more importantly, loyalty. With every Kingdom, a Lord and Lady: the Father and Mother to their People; a Beacon of Strength, Wisdom, and Grace. Without them: only wild lands of banditry, chaos, and death. Thus, every Ruler found their protection in Sword and Steel; in a Moat and Bailey; and for one Lord, here, in the Valley forgotten to the world-- the KRVE.
Our story takes place in the lost valley of the KRVE and our heroes, yet to be discovered, may truly be the villains.
Welcome to the KRVE, a land guarded by an ancient sect of Knights of the Broken God, Ilmater: the Blooded. Knights who have held steadfast a long deceased King's retreat; watching over the Valley and Her people, safeguarding against evil. For centuries they have held the Ancient Oaths and for centuries they would still, had they the numbers. But the Blooded are hundreds no longer; only a dozen to a score remain. Now come the omens of their Twilight hours.
Whether the Blooded extinguish in brilliant glory, or are dismembered by sanguine treachery, or simply fade into obscurity, will be up to the ministers of fate. Come now, the portents of their destiny: You are their Dusking.
Thus begins the Long Night.
Geography
The KRVE (pronounced "carve"): a forgotten land nestled in a great mountain range. Once a secret retreat to the sea for endangered royalty, it lies abandoned by the known world, claimed by the wilderness and those who settled it centuries ago.
The KRVE is a microcosm of monstrous lands. It is home to Ettins, Trolls and Troll-kin, goblins, elves, humans, dwarves, a Green Dragon, and several entrances to the Underdark.
