Hollowhome

Hollowhome is one of the Waste's largest cities, and one that finds itself in quite an unusual position. It exists, like all other Wastern towns, on a wastebone. However, Hollowhome is not actually on a wastebone as much as it is in a wastebone. Hollowhome is built on the inside of the Waste's largest wastebone, a massive stone tortoise's shell. It actually exists underneath the city of Anth'Tkur, which is built on top of the shell, and this has led to a number of land disputes and battles between the two cities.   The area near the head opening of the shell is known as the Light District, as it is the only part of the city where natural light is allowed in. As many dwarves prefer the dark, especially deep dwarves, the lightest part of the city is actually the seediest part. It is also where the city's railport is located. On the other hand, near the tail end of the shell, where the wastebone connects to dwarven tunnels that run in from outside of the Waste, is the Deep District. This is where the city's wealthy live, and has a much larger amount of deep dwarves and wealthy dwarf merchants than the rest of the city. Then, there is the Market District in between the two other districts, where all the city's commerce happens.

Demographics

Hollowhome is largely populated by dwarves. Of the dwarvish population, about 70% are sun dwarves, while the remaining 30% are deep dwarves. However, as a lot of trade goes on in the city, there are always plenty of non-dwarvish visitors. A decent portion of its permanent residents are non-dwarvish as well, but only around 20%. The only race that cannot be found in the city are orcs, who are barred from entry. The Light District is mostly peopled by sun dwarves and non-dwarves, while the Deep District is almost entirely dwarvish, with the majority of deep dwarves making their homes there. Very few live in the Market District, unless they don't actually have homes.

Government

Hollowhome is ruled by Jarl Mordred Doidrlagg. He was appointed, as all previous Hollowhome Jarls have been, by Uwaillach Morlia IV, High Emperor of the Dwarven Empire. The Jarl has continued the precedent set by his predecessors, keeping dwarf-orc relations quite hostile. However, in his age he has grown lax in his governing, and Hollowhome is more ruled by his underlings than anyone else. They have done a decent job of deescelating the tensions his rule has brought about, but as an aggressive sect arises amongst Anth'Tkur's Lahi'Gaur, the future is uncertain.

Industry & Trade

Hollowhome is a trade city. The Waste is quite devoid of natural resources, especially one incredibly important one: metal. Luckily, the Dwarvish Empire has an excess of that resource, and Hollowhome largely makes its fortune off of metal goods. Secondary to metal, Hollowhome also quite unusually makes a lot of money from selling water. Natural water is rare in the Waste, and the dwarves are capable of pumping groundwater and shipping it to the Waste, selling it as a premium. In this industry, however, they have quite a lot of competition with Anth'Tkur, which also sells water.

Guilds and Factions

Hollowhome is full of guilds, for all sorts of things. Many dwarves are talented craftspeople, and the art of creation is very important to dwarves society. So important, in fact, that guild leaders actually get a say in how the city is governed. While the Jarl rules the city, the guild leaders are permitted to advise him and approach him with suggestions. As Mordred has more or less ceased governing as of late, the guild leaders have practically taken over the city.
