Godlessness

For some bizarre reason, the Wild Waste is completely free from any divine influence. Once one crosses over the border, gods go silent, clerics and paladins temporarily lose their powers, and miracles are unheard of. Due to this, the Wild Waste has become a safe haven for undead, fiends, and the like, as there are no clerics or paladins to hunt them down. This does not mean that they run unchecked, of course, but they are in significantly less danger. Many capable of doing so still hide their natures, though, for few livings trust undead.

Even without any actual divine influence in the Waste, there are still a few who claim that the Waste is under the jurisdiction of a Silent God, or a Dead God, whose silence overpowers all others.
