The Ethereal Sea

The Ethereal Sea is like an ocean of energy which fills the gap between the spires. It resembles the void of space, but is less harsh. In the ethereal sea, and individual can breath and they can push against the arcane waters of the sea to propel or steer themselves.

Manifestation

The sea is yellow, and ripples like a lake. It has a sentience of its own, and contains the spires which it surrounds, keeping them in place and returning pieces of the spire back to itself. In this way the sea seeks to keep each spire whole, and is the reason that the spires do not crash into themselves. Above the ethereal sea are the stars beyond. Below is the abyss. If you slip too far below the waves of the ethereal sea, you will drown in the abyss, the air sucked from your lungs and the cold of the darkness freezing your heart. This is the main danger of crossing the ethereal sea. If one swims to high in the sea, toward the sun or the stars, they will find themselves adrift in space, with similar repercussions.

Localization

The ethereal sea fills the gaps between each spire. If you journey to any edge of any spire, you are likely to find the shore upon which the sea crashes.
