Mizuan

The Mizuan people are small of stature, but considered bold. It is a common stereotype that the Mizuan people are likely to speak up, both in anger and good cheer - to make themselves heard, especially when it matters most. Mizuan religion is built around the household, but the Old Faith was influential in developing their cultural ideals. Still, there are many Mizuans who do not follow a religion, but rather seek to learn from its teachings. Mizuans are wary of the claim that the Young gods were divine, and many consider them prophets or spiritual leaders, rather than divine spirits or deities. Mizuan skin is often beige or gold, and black hair and dark eyes are common, with exceptions. Mizuan people tend to be shorter in stature, and slighter of frame.

Family names

Family names are dependent upon where a Mizuan calls home. When there home changes, so to does their name. Family names are likely to be related to the city they live in, and in larger cities, the particular part of the city. In the country they often take the name of the nearest landmark - a particular mountain, or a large body of water. There is a Mizuan adage which says a name is like the tide, and that the names which one values will return to them, as the tide returns to the shore. Place is important in the Mizuan culture, and so is family.

Other names

Mizuans often have a community name. This is given to indicate familial or close relationships, and is similar to middle names in other cultures. This name can also change, but it is considered back luck to change this name often. These names sometimes describe the type of people who one relates to most clearly, such as 'wanderer' or 'artisan' and help to describe a community where one feels at home.
