Fire-Blasted Hills

This is the proving/training ground of the and their champions. The God of Flame doesn't lightly make someone their champion, and constantly subjects them to training and testing. This is so they are always fresh out of training and refreshed. Which, incidentally, is just like how fire strips away that which is unessential, revealing pure hard stuff underneath.   Because of this, and because of the arid climate, wildfires are very common. The sky is usually an ashy gray, and the air is hardly ever clear. It has been clearing up a bit recently, but every step kicks up a bit of ash into the air.   Not many people visit the hills. The ones that do don't stay long. They're generally after the precious resources that can only be found there, like those spicy fire-resistant plants or beautiful gems created from intense heat and pressure.   There used to be a colony here, the . It was built to withstand the God of Flames, which is an affront to their power. It was burned down a long time ago, and only some foundations remain. Nothing grows there.

Geography

The hills themselves are blackened and barren. Most things are burned, or were burned awhile ago. There are places here and there that have actually pretty rich soil, because of the ash from the flame. Underneath the soil is a bedding of harsh granite and stone, which tends to resist the stone. The granite can be seen jutting out of hillsides. This is a pretty dry, arid local. The temperature is pretty temperate year round, but there is hardly any rainfall. There are some dried river beds full of sand, but the water has been gone for a long time.

Fauna & Flora

The plants here have evolved over the thousands of years to become fire resistant. Of course, they can only be fire resistant to a point. Sometimes the flames are so hot and so unending that they turn even the densest of plants to charcoal. These plants tend to seed themselves such that the seeds open after a recent flame. It's a pretty cool sight too. After a fire, all the seed pods pop open to bury themselves in the still cooling embers.   There are some birds that feed on the seeds. As much as they can, because they can't just go digging in the fire. They tend to sit and watch the God of Flame and their champions fight, to see where the fire lands and where there might be seeds. These birds are ashy grey colored with bright red undersides.   Recently, plants have started to retake some of the hills. Desert plants for sure, but ones whose seeds can be carried on the wind. This has also brought some small animals like rabbits and rodents and squirrels to forage among the plants. All this feels new though, since nothing has really been able to grow here for a long time.   There's a cute little species of lizard that sunbathes and eats flying insects. They are like small dragons, and they burrow into the coals for warmth and energy. Their colors are like the coals that they burrow in, ranging from ashy white to rich black with bright orange mouths. These lizards have become more rare, and have traveled south to find more warmth.

Natural Resources

Precious gems from the granite hillsides. Exotic spicy plants that have evolved to resist flame, and thus are dense and good building materials for weapons or vehicles.
