Valley Bison

What they originally thought to be cattle turned out to be a small herd of shaggy bison. A quick hunt showed that the meat was delicious, and the size would last the scouts much longer than the deer they had seen up to this point.   Kiran Blackwell-Biography of Lord Fenton Caius

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Valley bison is the heaviest grazing land animal in the valley. There is a long mane of hair underneath the neck and also on the forehead. The dense coat is dark to golden brown in colour, but is less shaggy than those of the great plains outside of the mountains. Both males and females bear short, stubby horns.

Ecology and Habitats

Living in herds of 7-10, the Valley buffalo roams through the valley, but is most often found in the forested south-west and central regions.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Valley bison feed predominantly on grasses, although they also browse on leaves and branches; in summer, an adult male can consume 32 kg of food in a day. Valley bison need to drink every day. Despite their usual slow movements, Valley Bison are surprisingly agile and can clear 9'-wide streams from a standing start.
