Demons and Daemons

Demons and Daemons are two different species. Daemons are more ancient creatures, their power stemming from The Eternal Serpent, while demons were born from the sins of man.

Possession

They both have the ability to possess creatures, but the effects of possession are different. With daemons, the eyes of the possessed turn black, the color of ancient, wise evil, as do the veins. The temperature of the possessed and the area around them turns frigid, like The Eternal Serpent's icy prison. The possessed floats in the air, while their soul is tormented in their mind. Anyone who comes close to the possessed feels an overwhelming sense of fear. With demons, it has the almost opposite effect. The eyes first become wildly bloodshot, then deep red. The possessed goes on a murderous rampage, tearing through town after town. Their temperature becomes hot enough to boil water, and, in extreme cases, the possessed is seen to actually catch fire. Anyone who comes close to them feels a sense of outrageous fury, and sometimes even joins the possessed in their wild frenzy.

Exorcism

Demons can be exorcised by a priest, usually a priest of Durim, but only a god can exorcise a daemon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Demons

Demons, in natural from, stand about six feet tall. They have horns that can face up (a newer, more rebellious form called Ysnik), face down (an older form called Cuslon), bend backwards (a form only on weak demons, called Xer), or curl backwards ( a rare form called N'taa). They have thin, wiry wings with a span of usually about eight feet. Demons can change their form into most anything, but only for a short time. You can tell if someone is or is possessed by a demon because their eyes are slit-pupiled, like a goat's.

Daemons

Daemons are a more menacing figure, being substantially larger. Daemon height ranges anywhere from eight to fourteen feet tall, and they can either have wider, more antler-shaped horns (called K'siini), or no horns at all (called Jurat). Daemon eyes are either burning spheres of fire, completely black, or empty (the socket has no eye in it). Daemons have no wings but do have scales and plates along their bodies, and they also have a split jawline, somewhat like tusks, with razor-sharp fangs all along them. They have a human-like left hand, only with claws or talons, but their right hand is always some meld of flesh and weapon, such as an axe. Some daemons also have an eye in the center of their stomach, but this only occurs with stronger daemons.

Genetics and Reproduction

Demons ascend to the surface and reproduce with mortal men and women. Daemons split in two in a gruesome, mitosis-like spectacle.

Growth Rate & Stages

Demons grow from infant to adult two years after birth, but daemons are farmed fully mature out of the rage of The Eternal Serpent.

Ecology and Habitats

Both demons and daemons live in the Netherworld, but on different planes. Demons live in the hot, burning region of hell, while daemons live in the frigid, dark region.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They both eat souls and suffering.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Demon features are humanoid, but daemon features are bony and rigid.

Average Intelligence

Daemons are usually wiser than demons, being more ancient and having a greater knowledge of the Cosmos.

Demons can possess people, shapeshift, fly, and have limited magical powers. Daemons can also possess people, have some control over death and fear, can turn invisible, can melt into pure darkness, can kill anyone in any way, can also shapeshift, but only into vicious animals, and can warp reality in a restricted fashion.
