History

Evolved from Christmas and other gift-giving holidays as religious feelings about it declined. Some people celebrated the holiday without religion as all. It eventually evolved into an all-encompassing gift holiday, only treated as a religious by small groups of people.

Execution

There is almost always family-focused gift-giving and fun. But the specific traditions celebrated depends heavily on your family's traditions. Often candles are involved, being lit up to the day as a calendar or just as decoration, trees, and bushes are also often involved. Sometimes smaller gifts are put in other places, ethier small gift boxes on the table, in a stocking, or hidden in small baskets around the house.
