Orc

Beyond the horizon, over the mountains, across the trackless wastes, or over the open sea, the bitterest enemies of humanity await. The orcs are monsters formed in the shape of men. They are broad and mighty, their jaws thick and their teeth like those of dogs. Single-mindedly obsessed with violence and domination, in single combat only the most skilled and best equipped human warriors could slay an orc and walk away in one piece.   If there are orcish castes dedicated to the arts of peace, no record of them has ever come to humanity. Polities form among them only when one orc and his fanatic followers attain the momentum of victory after victory to force other tribes of orcs into compliance. When this occurs, the make-shift nation spills forth from the marginal lands where orcs dwell into raids or wars of conquest against humanity.   The greatest such surge of orcish terror occurred in the twilight days of the old Sovereignty, when a great army of orcs fell under the sway of the black magician Imar Thorn, the Dread Lord. The power-mad wizard and his lieutenants drove hordes of orcs on out of the Euborian steppe into the heartland of the splintering Sovereignty, sacking Partos itself and being stopped only at the very gates of Megamenion. Other armies and war bands have attacked the periphery of the steppe since that time, but no invasion of comparable size has yet happened.
