Entry 6: Before the Rise of Exar

I held a seminar covering my breakthroughs with the magic and fall of Ruza. Most of those in attendance were the professors of my college, whether they attended of their own volition or out of a sense of obligation to their Dean, I don't know. But one face that shocked me to see in there was Vas, though it was clear from how she was hidden in the back, she had no desire to be seen. Though her diligent scribbling of notes tells me she was at least intrigued.   I informed them of how I happened upon this discovery and how I was able to harness the fire. The live demonstration went over rather well as ideas were tossed about for the energy source of the magic. All magic in this world must have an energy source, clerics use their gods for the energy, druids use the spirit of nature, Vas' Void magic uses the empty space between the planes as an energy source, but mine appeared to use none. However, then, during a demonstration of the magic, a colleague's book was consumed in flames, it was nearly instantaneously consumed by blue flames. Then I remembered that each time I had summoned the flames it was on a parchment usually containing out dated notes on them.   As we began to experiment, each time I would summon the flames, a book would ignite. It appeared to prefer books I was holding, but if I held none it would burn the nearest book. I was struck with a hypothesis, the flames consume recorded knowledge. They don't delete the information, but each time they are summoned, the pages of written knowledge are their fuel source. The flames would not consume a book of written future divination or accounts of fiction when tested. The exact amount that they must be fed I don't know and how old the information must be to be considered a valid fuel I will need to test. But this is truly revolutionary and could change everything about what we consider as valid fuel sources of magic! Something as intangible as knowledge as power is a truly incredible possibility, even wizards do not use their knowledge as an energy source, they use materials to sacrifice for their spells.   I must begin testing this hypothesis at ONCE! And I was more than happy to watch the smugness drain from Vas' face as she realized she wasn't the only one to discover a new magic. Though I couldn't recognize the expression she wore as she left.
