Entry 5: Before the Rise of Exar

I'VE DONE IT!   It's been so long since my last entry, I was so enraptured by my research and Vas' constant torment that I'd forgotten to write entries. But now at long last! 4 YEARS! I've DONE IT! I cracked the code to the fall of Ruza! The events were not all random and poorly timed, they were all connected! We though the cult ritual was the last nail in the coffin for the kingdom, and in a way, it was! But the Ritual was actually performed before the fire and flood, not after!    The ritual was a ritual to improve vitality in the citizens and land, to provide them strength needed to endure a harsh year that they had foreseen. But because it was done on such a large scale, it threw off the balance of magic in the region and caused the calamities! But the ritual actually worked first! I found a journal on an expedition into the ruins, it was from a mage's apprentice, he spoke of how the ritual had invigorated the entire city. Bolstered immune systems, people moving with more speed to their walk, so much more!   The flood that came was part of the ritual, it was not a deluge of death, but actually a rain of spiritual healing. The water healed the injured and even in some extreme cases restored sight to the blind or mobility to the paralyzed. The city never actually flooded, as the water vanished as soon as it touched the ground. Attempts to bottle it failed. This explains why no other kingdoms reported rises in sea levels at this time! It was exactly what the kingdom needed to survive a coming famine.   But then, the fire. It was indeed a magic fire as I had previously thought, brought upon them due to the imbalance of magic performed by such a large scale ritual. The fabric of reality attempted to shift back to the natural balance and Ruza was caught in that shift. The fires were clean burning, blue, and emitted no smoke, much like the small scale I created. But unlike the one I created that would not burn me, this one burned everyone and everything. Death was instantaneous as far as I am able to tell, nearly complete vaporization. This explains the lack of bodies found in the ruins of the kingdom. I discovered this as the fire does not burn when under control and commanded. I am able to control when I summon the fire. But due to this fire being brought about by the entropy of magic correcting itself, it burned anyone and anything caught in it.   On a large scale, this ritual throws magic out of balance, but on a small scale, performed only by me, it has given me access to magic I'd never heard of before. I am able to imbue my axe with fire simply by speaking a chant, yet the fire does not burn anyone unless I will it to. In fact, should I desire, the flames can actually be used to heal. I will need to practice further to truly understand and master this magic, but I am truly ecstatic for the possibilities. I've never been able to perform magic before, but now, this is truly an auspicious day.   It might not be inventing my own form of magic, but it is discovering a new form of harnessing magic and even Vas will need to concede to my competence at the very least.
