Weapon of choice: twin katanas about three feet in length with no guards and plain handles, attached together at the base of the handles by a long chain. these blades are made of a Damascus type steal with a wood grain pattern. they are a flat dark gray in color with a darker, almost black grain. they were forged from star iron and adamantine by a master Gwerin Coed smith who uses the energies of the world tree (aka Hud - Welsh pronunciation) during the forging process to give the blades strength, durability, and the ability to channel and absorb energies. they also never loose their edge and are soulbound to Ilya.
Ilya was born of a forbidden union between a two soul bound Verndari, a Gwerin Coed and an Iwi Awa. his parents, not wanting to be found out claimed the child was found, abandoned near a river and so they brought him to a village that raised orphans. they stayed nearby to see their child grow until around Ilya's sixth year, when they were called away to fight an infestation of Dian Wu (those that have been corrupted by chaos). they died fighting the hoard, leaving Ilya alone, with no knowledge of his heritage. He grew up as Gwerin Coed and when his abilities manifested he was sent to the Verndari Acadamy where he was trained and honed into a warrior. As he trained he came to realize that he was different from the other Gwerin Coed, and after confiding in his best friend Chanden, who was from the same village, they decided to keep his stranger abilities secret. At the academy he also met Sunder and Rin, his Una Trium and when they graduated, they forged their soul bond, and became full Verndari. when the bond was formed, the other two realized that Ilya was different and helped him to hone the Iwi Awa abilities he had inherited from his father. Their group became one of the most powerful in the history of the Verndari. they were later invited to join the council of Nines.
notable event: during an intense battle with a large group of Dian wu, Sunder was fatally wounded. after the battle Rin tried to heal him but was too late, and Sunder died. Filled with grief and panic, Ilya and Rin used their Iwi Awa astral abilities and their soul bond with Sunder to follow his soul, and bring it back to his body, anchoring it in place until together they were able to heal Sunder's wounds and bring him back to life. This is the only case of resurrection in the history of the three plains.
