Session 2: The Job

Tuesday, Oct. 13th, 2020 7pm-10:20pm

General Summary

After replacing the broken bows, Duul gave his quarterstaff to the hobgoblin, Lavug, for use as an arcane focus. With these things done, the party gathered their belongings together to set off to Raven's Crest, the village in question that one of Lodun's students went missing while supposedly investigating, though not before Slab openly insulted the remaining students' attire. This was, yet again, derailed rather quickly as two of the party members decided to take their seats... on their carriage's roof. After some awkwardness in sorting through such chaos, they eventually did, successfully, get themselves on their way. During the two day trip, they stop during the nights to make camp and hunt small game.

During the night, after some awkward fumblings, Emyr managed to tame a female brown bear, who he has dubbed Chompsky. Beyond this, most of the night went by uneventfully, and the party seemed almost unphased by their new party member. While Emyr set about luring Chompsky to their carriage, Duul took to doing a quick hunt for any feasible source of fresh meat. During the course of the journey to the town, Ghozun was also able to befriend Chompsky, by spending the trip feeding her.

Once at Raven's Crest, the party began investigating why the town appeared abandoned, a fact that Chompsky appeared unsurprised by. Their investigations quickly turned to looting, leaving Slab with an additional 100G, Lavug with a working Musket with 6 rounds and 15G worth of misc jewelry, and Ghozun with 50G worth of misc jewelry. Meanwhile, at the well, Emyr and Eldin came across a lone Cranium Rat, which the later killed instantly and tossed aside. From the carriage nearby, Duul noticed that the rat suddenly went missing. Knowing that Cranium Rats have only appeared as a result of Calamity magic, he immediately instructed everybody to pack up and leave. Before they could do so, however, a strange one-eyed creature ran across their path, spooking the horses. While multiple party members attempted to strike at the creature, they all failed, and Emyr went in pursuit of it as it leaped down the well, leaving Chompsky to the rest of the group. By this point, the party had noticed that, to their surprise, roots had grown in the way of their path, blocking the road back. With little other options, they took to the well and the cave found beneath. This lead them to being attacked by more Cranium Rats, including a Swarm. Due to being tricky little bastards, they took a while to kill, until eventually the Swarm decided that they weren't worth the effort and dispersed, skittering off. Travelling further brought them to more man-made tunnels and a scrapped together laboratory. Discovering their creature from earlier, Emyr attempted to converse with it, only to be rattled when the party let him know that the creature was not directly speaking back. While Ghozun adopted the odd evil goldfish on the table, Eldin conversed with the creature and discovered that Emyr wasn't just crazy; the creature was telepathic. It let them know that it had no recollection of anything but its current life and the world around it; the robes it wears it has always had, and it had never known the town above to be inhabited. However, it also warned them, upon realizing that they meant it no harm, that there was something more telepathic and sinister deeper in the the underground ruins, something that it fears greatly.
