Session 11: Thunderbolts and Lightning!

Monday, February 8th @7pm-

General Summary

In media res, Duul has the Zealot priest successfully grappled and pinned, restraining him for the ease of the rest of the party. With Lavug's protector eldritch cannon bolstering them, Eldin lets his arrows fly and Ghozun works to entangle the three goons behind the Zealot. Sadly, combat becomes a bit sour as after this the Zealot frightens both Lavug and Duul with its abyssal and otherworldly nonsense of jumbled languages. Choas ensues throughout the fight, and once the Zealot finally seemed to be killed, he dropped into the pool of water behind him. Immediately, tentacles burst forth from the pool, though Slab hears a voice in his head, "Embrace me." He does so, leaping into the water. When he does so, lightning and thunder crash outside, destroying corpses and abominations alike. When he emerges, he does so wielding the holy weapon known as the Trident of Zumna. Finding nothing for him to do, Tiger-Ghozun runs from the temple and goes off to check on the civilians they left behind. In the temple, Emyr picks up the offending Curious Gem from before, hearing it whisper incoherently to him. Shoving it in his pack, he dismisses himself to track down his bear. Eldin, for security and safety reasons, is sure to stab each of the corpses as a form of double-tap to ensure that they are all, in fact, dead, rather than just simply fried.

A Champion is Chosen

They return to the city and are greeted with cheerful, open arms by the people, all of whom celebrate their victory and treat the party as their saviors. Mayor Bronze states that they will repair them however they can, but asks that they are given the chance to restore their city first. Duul and Emyr both are clearly fed up with the citizens by this point, between the lack of pay and the city seemingly having grown to accept their fate prior to the party's arrival. Dejected and abused, the party seems to resign themselves to sleep and handle whatever the future may hold the following day, though they were given the Key to the City of Eldertide.   Later that day, however, Mayor Bronze summons them from the quarters he'd arranged for them, leading them out into the city's new town square. There, they find that the citizens had decided to throw a tremendous celebration for the party, doing what they can to pay the party through food and drinks, expending their best goods for the occasion. The festival goes on late into the night, with each of the party members having an array of dance requests from various citizens. At least four people, all bugbears, have tried to dance with Chompsky, in addition to the remaining children dancing with and fawning over her. While the elves overindulged in drink and passed out, Ghozun ended up doing much the same in the food department, ending the night bloated.   Amidst the festivities, however, Duul snuck off to check for any surviving, intact undead or abominations. He succeeds, much to the Galwind crew's disgust. Slab meanwhile goes into merchandising, with one of the local brewers naming his nearest drink after him. Arrangements are made to pay him via his "Swedish Bank Account" (whatever Swedish is; these citizens have never heard of such a thing)!

Daylight Come and Me Wanna Go Home...

The following day, they use the signal flare to summon the Galwind to the remaining piers, and the crew obliges. In various states of post-indulgence, the party boards. Ghozun returns with armfuls of leftover baked goodies from the night before, seemingly having enjoyed them greatly to the point of gluttony and wanting more. All the more. Slab is delayed in this, as he checks through the wreckage of the cathedral and is contacted by his Goddess. She thanks him for his service, officially naming him her champion and says that she hopes that, with his aid, they will hopefully turn the tides in this seemingly never ending conflict. Prior to their leaving, some of the shipwrights approach them to offer to make them a sturdy ship capable of handling even the deeper waters of The Lost.

Post-Session RP

Unbeknownst to the party as a whole, everyone's favorite resident monk has managed to accumulate a pair of undead abominations in a ramshackle house in the ruined portion of the city. With these, he plans to see what makes them tick, but to do so he realizes that not only will he need help, but also that good help is hard to come by. With this realization, he comes to the reasonable conclusion that he should seek aid in the form of the party's other scholar, Lavug, and thus discreetly summons his attention away from the artificer's tinkering. Duul, cryptic and scatter-brained as ever, leads him through a half-crazed song and dance over his dilemma, though by some miracle it seems that Lavug is able to piece together the reality of it; Duul is trying to figure out how to reanimate corpses... still. Though his own personal beliefs consist of letting the dead lay, his own goals of having a working contract with the estate win out, and he agrees to help him under a condition: he requests a way to obtain a proper business relationship with Lodun, and Duul, being his right hand man, appears to be the best person to ask about the job. The two agree to the arrangement, and Duul leads him back to the place he's been holding the pair up, chained and broken --- both jaws and fingers --- to render them harmless. Lavug attempts to do a surface study of the creatures, though he can't, on his own, figure out what exactly would make them tick. He does, however, know and inform Duul that the estate actually does have some texts on the matter. Duul accepts this, killing the pair before they leave, though he brings some measure, however small, of clarity for why he's doing things.
"I'm not strong enough to deal with my monsters. The dead have nothing to fear and no questions of loyalty. As far as I'm concerned they are a means to an end."
In the meantime, Ghozun has seen to creating something of a fight club in the city, instructing the members in proper fighting techniques so that they may adequately defend their home in the future. As they train and spar, he puts in the time and effort to construct a few crocheted beanies. While one of them fail miserably, the remaining three turn out decently enough, and he awards them to the top three fighters of the group. When they pull them on, he notices that they seem more inclined to hit things, and they strike harder when they do so.
