Stormjaw Dwarves

Deep in the subterranean city of Tumunzim, the Stormjaw clan manages their gold mines and hones their craft. Stormjaw smiths are renowned for their skill at forging weapons and armor; it is rumored that their masonry and stone work are equally masterful, though such rumors have never been confirmed by an outsider as the city is strictly locked off from non-dwarves. Only the Goldbrands have seen the city, and fraternal pride has kept their lips sealed.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Like all dwarves, the Stormjaw dwarves have a limited ability to see in lightless environments. Their long time spent below ground has caused their eyes to become painfully sensitive to sunlight.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Every Stormjaw name has been used and reused countless times throughout the generations; a Stormjaw's name belongs to the clan, not to the individual. A Stormjaw who brings shame to his name risks having it stripped from him forever.

Common Dress Code

While the Stormjaws sport beards that are just as impressive as their Goldbrand cousins', working with molten metal and fire can make quick work of any unrestrained hair. It is common to see a Stormjaw's beard braided and wrapped around their torso almost like a vest or harness, to keep it securely away from any errant sparks.

Common Myths and Legends

Long before the mochilians took their place at dragons' sides, the dwarves were created by Crafter Uryn, and he instilled in them a love for craftsmanship. They carved their grand cities and learned the ways of the forge under his tutelage, and they worshiped him as a god-king. Though Urys has been dead since even before the Sept War, he is still revered to this day as the patron of all dwarvenkind, and all that they create is sanctified in his name.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The city of Tumunzim houses one of the only functional gold mines in Vecrona. Despite the lack of any direct contact with the outside world, the Stormjaw clan has turned this fact to their advantage by selling and trading minted gold coin to neighboring civilizations in vastly lopsided trade agreements, using Goldbrand merchants as intermediaries. In this way, the Stormjaw clan has assured their own wealth and security, as no sane army would risk a losing assault on the fortress city only to draw the fury of every human nation in the northern hemisphere.
