Voro, God of the Road (voro)

Voro is the Inheritor God who governs the Road. His domain extends to not only physical roads, but those who travel along those roads as well as those who do not have a home — either temporarily or permanently. His followers do not maintain large temples, and his most devout tend to live as permanent vagrants, following and maintaining the network of shrines to Voro that keep the wilderness at bay.  

Depictions

In art, Voro is usually depicted as a humble traveler, gripping a walking stick and wearing a worn robe, with hood casting deep shadows over his face. In stories, Voro tends to be taciturn, a stranger that drifts in from nowhere and asks, not demands, the hospitality of those with homes. He tends to reward those who give that gift without question or hesitation, while his punishment for spurning a guest is usually in the form of lack of fortune rather than misfortune.  

Beliefs

The basic tenets of Voro revolve around hospitality. According to Voro, one should never turn a guest away unless taking them in would cause undue burden. One should ideally provide a guest with dinner, the ability to wash, and safety for the night.   Conversely, Voro also believes that the guest should respect the host. Guests should be courteous and should not pose a threat or burden to them. It is polite to talk with your host, telling them about one's travel or news they've heard along the way if possible. And if the guest is ever a host themselves, they should pass on the same courtesy that they have been provided.   Voro also has a set of teachings on the subject of vagrants and the unhoused. Unlike with temporary guests, there is no obligation to host them, but it is still considered a virtuous act to do. If possible, one should share a meal with someone unhoused or willingly wandering. If one has an empty room, offering it to someone unhoused is considered a very good act, even if it's in exchange for some kind of fair and dignified service.   Finally, followers of Voro sometimes embrace the path of the vagrant. Gifted with the power to maintain Voro's shrines, the Itinerants place themselves entirely at the mercy of Voro and the hosts of the world, treading the roads anchored by his shrines and pleading hospitality. The Itinerants strive to be the model guest. Though there is no vow of poverty involved, it is rare to see an Itinerant with much wealth to spare, for whenever it comes into their hands it is more likely than not given away to their next host as a gift of gratitude.   Itinerants are also allowed to collect offerings placed at shrines of Voro. As with personal items, these offerings are generally given away, or spent to help repair and maintain shrines.
