Tito Rangi

Tito Watananga Rangi

A native of New Zealand, Tito was a Ranger in the ISSA Corps. In this position he showed skill, bravery and cunning well above that of his comrades. Incredibly charismatic and independent minded, he clashed regularly with his superiors, leading him to be assigned to particularly controversial missions as one of the infamous 13th “Raider” Special Reconnaissance Wing.   His already lenient moral compass grew more lax with time, until he was caught frequently violating ISSA ethics, even getting one of his own cadets, Amelia Lee, pregnant with his son. These actions alienated Tito from the Corps, however his boldness and refusal to ‘play by the rules’ earned him the respect and admiration of many.   Having made no shortage of enemies in the Solar System, Tito perhaps thought it best to take his new family aboard the Raven. A half-hearted attempt to reconcile with the law and start a new life was quickly thwarted when Tito realized just how profitable crime on the frontier could be.   Through the years he has grown increasingly violent and ruthless, and his continuing abuse ultimately alienated his wife and son who have refused to join him in his criminal enterprises. Indeed, young Tuck has even joined the Corps in the hope of escaping his family’s past.   Petty crime no longer suits Tito, who is looking to “make it big” out here in alien space. He now works under the employ of the Broker, a mysterious Orga who serves as a go-between for equally mysterious Benefactors, performing all manner of odd jobs in return for advanced alien technology and resources that, if unchecked, could one day see the Jackdaws in charge of the whole Colony.   Quick, charismatic, and deviously cunning, he has the absolute loyalty of his crew, who don’t know exactly what he’s planning, only that it will be the biggest score they could ever dream of…

Personal history

Tito was born in Wellington, New Zealand, but spent much of his childhood with relatives in the Australian Outback, and in Texas, as both his parents died in a tragic accident soon after his birth. He entered the ISSA Corps, and were commissioned with flying colors at a young age.   Due to his incredible charisma and aptitude, Tito was recruited by the Corps Intelligence Office, and put in the 13th Special Reconnaissance Wing, or "Raiders," a controversial black ops group.   Tito excelled in his line of work, gaining a loyal crew in the process. He was however constantly followed by controversy, and his superiors constantly lambasted him as a "renegade." This ultimately culminated in an "inappropriate relationship" with one of his subordinates, Cadet Amelia Lee. This nearly cost him his career, but due to his "exceptional service record," this, and Tito's many other misdeeds were quietly swept under the rug, while Tito and Amelia married soon after the birth of their son, Tucker.   Tito was eventually kicked out of the Corps for unrelated reasons. Realizing that he and his crew had made no shortage of enemies in the solar system, he decided it was best to "get the hell out of dodge," and hopped aboard the Raven.   Shortly after the Colony's founding however, Tito began to but heads with the Colonial Administration, notably over them not taking the "Pangard threat" seriously enough, and by them refusing to send any overtures to the Orga. Someone in the CA agreed with him, and gave him access to large amounts of equipment and intelligence. Convincing many of his former crew-mates to join him, Tito and his "Jackdaws" left the colony with large amounts of stolen equipment, and headed to the Gateway.   Making contact with the mysterious "Broker," Tito entered the alien's employ, accepting technology and intelligence as payment. But to Tito, this was all just a ploy to learn more about the Broker's secretive clients, and why they were so interested in Tito and his gang. Eventually Tito would gain the trust of his Benefactors, learning their plans for him - to put him in charge of the Colony and gift him the riches of the High Temple in exchange for helping their plans come to fruition.   Over time, Tito's new Benefactors would slowly twist his mind to their will, ironically manipulating the master manipulator with promises of riches, glory, and the "good of the colony." A once brilliant man, he became little short of a pawn - the Sarn put him in charge of taking over the Raven Colony, keeping the humans distracted while the Sarn themselves invaded the High Temple.   Ultimately the great invasion was defeated, and most of the Jackdaws captured. Tito however escaped, his current whereabouts unknown, though it is most likely he has become nothing more than a Sarn puppet, what's left of his free will stripped away with arcane technologies and cyber-neurological implants.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Tito is smart and incredibly charismatic. Throughout his many adventures he has cultivated a variety of contacts, and is currently making new ones amongst the Orga.   Many colonists view him sympathetically, allowing him some leeway in traveling about, as some are content to just "look the other way" when he comes around. During his service in the ISSA Corps, he had many comrades, and some high ranking officers in Wing 29 still owe him a favor or two. There are even rumors that he has contacts among the Colonial Administration.   Under employ of the Orga Merchant Lord "Nar'gal," Tito has made even more friends, quickly inserting himself into the local politics of the Gateway, winning supporters for his ultimate goal of taking over Nar'gal's operation.

Family Ties

Known as something of a womanizer, his longest relationship is with his (currently separated) wife, Amelia Lee, with whom he has a son, Tucker. While Amelia is still deeply in love with Tito, her friends and family at last convinced her to leave him, both to avoid his life of crime, and to escape what was very much an abusive, one-sided relationship.   Tucker was more or less raised by Tito's old-friend Sam Hester. Tuck joining the Corps was yet another stab of betrayal from his son, but Tito continues to hope in-vain that he can convince his son to "see the error in his ways."

Social Aptitude

Incredibly smart, charismatic, funny, and boy does he know it. Confident, but usually too smart to be arrogant. Very good at manipulating people.
