Orga Trade Network

The average distance between stars in the Adhara cluster is just over two light years. Connecting many of these stars are the “canals” - regions of well-charted space, lined with small stations and laser-arrays. Their purpose? Propulsion - the Orga’s primary method of travel is solar sails, a method of travel adopted by their neighbors, including the Pangard. Huge solar-sail-driven barges traverse the Adhara Cluster via these canals, whose laser arrays accelerate and decelerate them as need be.   The primary advantage of solar-sail propulsion, is that no ship traversing the canal needs to carry its own propellant, drastically reducing weight and time of acceleration. Constructing the Canals may have taken the Orga centuries, but the results were well worth it - Any ship with a large enough sail can travel between stars in under 2 years, and can traverse the entire Adhara Cluster in less than a century, allowing for interstellar trade and travel on a massive scale.   The laser-array stations dotting the canals are powered by small dyson-clouds around the stars on either end of the canal, with power transmitted to them via powerful microwave beams. These stations, usually built using hollowed out asteroids, are mostly unmanned, though larger relay stations can also support small settlements and trade outposts - or become havens for pirates and criminals.. The largest stations are found at the edges of star systems, serving large dockyards for the ships that stop by - "Gateway" is the station located in the Adhara 51 System.

Power Generation

Power is harvested from stars on either end of a canal, and then beamed to the various relay stations along the route via high intensity microwave lasers. Some stations also generate their own power via small-scale nuclear fusion or geothermal methods.

Propulsion

The relay stations along each Canal possess incredibly powerful and highly focused laser arrays, firing light in the UV spectrum - higher frequencies would require very thick and heavy sails to be used, giving diminishing returns. There are around 30 stations along each canal, with each station powering travel along 0.06 light years of space. Travelling from one system to the next takes a little over 2 cycles - while this means it still can take upwards of a hundred cycles to cross the entire cluster, journeys from star to star can be done cheaply, efficiently, and constantly. Like the Silk Road of old on Earth, it is a slow, yet reliable trade route.

Weapons & Armament

Due to the presence of Pirates (and worse) lurking throughout the Network, it is highly recommended that all traversing trade barges be well defended in the event of hostile encounters.

Communication Tools & Systems

Conductors   Due to the complicated nature and technology of the Canals, and the Orga Trade Network's monopoly on their ownership, the Canals are run by a specialized guild of pilots and flight directors called Ga-Urd but do to the common acceptance of the "Interstellar Railroad" metaphor among humans, they are called "Conductors" in English.    The Guild of Conductors guides ships through the various canals of the Adhara Cluster (for a modest fee of course), spending most of their lives travelling back and forth across the same stretch of a couple light years. Far from banal however, the job has many perks, with Conductors getting to meet all sorts of interesting folk and creatures travelling across the cluster - in this position, they have first access to the flow of goods and knowledge, meaning that they have also served as powerful information brokers, their finger upon the pulse of interstellar trade.   The Guild allows anyone into their ranks who is capable of the job, regardless of species, and they sell their services to anyone travelling the canals, regardless of allegiance. However, they cannot guarantee passage across multiple systems - one system may forbid ships from another from transiting through it for instance. For example, many Orga Merchant Lords have come to an agreement not to allow passage to Pangard ships, effectively blockading them within their own star system.   Still, the Conductors are seen as (mostly) trustworthy and reliable by all, and only a fool would dare offend them, and so lose any ability to travel the great transitways of the Adhara Cluster.
