The Tear drive

The Space Time Gravitational Puncture Device (STGPD) or as it is better known as The Tear Drive is the main method of faster than light travel for Humanity. Developed by UARC in ????? the Tear Drive works by using the Distortions of Spacetime caused by gravity to escape the bounds of both Time and Space allowing for movement that is faster than lightspeed. However it does come with several drawback any gravitational distortion in spacetime can "slingshot" a ship using it Tear Drive off course similar to a asteroid passing a star, this means using it to reach uncharted areas in space can be an incredibly risky endeavor as a uncharted star could throw a ship light years off course. Older models of the drive could also fail in gravity wells by putting some of the ship into real space while the rest of the ship is still outside of spacetime, this causes intense stress upon the ships hull and can rip the ship to pieces instantaneously.
