Master Plot: Runesong

What is Runesong? No one will ever truly be able to answer this question. Some might say it is a language, one so powerful that it writes the fates of others. Others say its a way of life - a philosophy to live by, or a revered craft to master.   Runesongs are stone tablets, written before the Crash by ancient Dwarven scholars. It is claimed that they have the power to tell the future, though many assume that this is merely folklore. Anyhow, the methods of writing these tablets have been long forgotten, of course. While these tablets were invaluable to the ancient Dwarven empires, they came with a downside. Mindflayers, ever a parasite on the back of humanoid civilisations, had an innate connection to the runesongs. Some speculate this is due to the greater mental capacity of Mindflayers, and that the ability to tell or write the future is only a few evolutionary steps in front of them. Regardless, the Dwarves had to keep their runesongs well hidden, for fear of having them used against themselves.
Many runesongs were simply tablets inscribed with a powerful divination spell, not a wholly unfathomably concept. A true runesong is a completely different beast; something imbued with universal, reality-altering power that very few, if any, mortal beings can handle. In all the centuries of the Matieral Layers' existence, few have ever been created. To be precise, 5 true runesongs have ever existed. Astoundingly, four were created by a single individual, over a single lifetime. Daeren Sors, the Elven philosopher and scholar who disappeared centuries before even The Crash, created one for each principle of existence that he came up with, save for Zero. The greatest mind that ever existed could not fathom a magical manifestation of the absence of existence. The last of the True Runesongs is the song of Dwarfkin. Some say this stone tablet birthed the Dwarves, and was created by some previous master race. Either way, it is the object the curiosity and wonder of many a Dwarf who wishes to master it, but none have found it since the crash. It used to reside in the halls of King Hyangar the Grey, a powerful Dwarven lord from before the Crash.

Plot points/Scenes

Runesongs have started to pop up all over The Shattered Reach, rarely, but enough to suggest they are probably more than the myth they appeared to be.   This is because Dicennion, a being of absolute evil and cruelty, found something. 10 years ago, it found a true runesong, something imbued with all the cosmic power an artefact can handle. The runesong Dicennion found was The Song of Dwarfkin. Only now is Dicennion unlocking the item's potential, and it will surely prove dire to the forces in opposition to it.
