"I've seen rats sink a lifeboat more than once"
Gareth Nemens served admirably in the Peacekeepers of Van Myr and was present at the Cataclysm of Van Nord, an experience that scarred his face and left his personality as much a torn mess. In the years to follow he grew menacing and harsh, quick to punish the refugees that he felt did not appreciate the generosity of Van Myr and far quicker still to discipline those he thought capable of tampering with artifacts and the occult. Later his drive to find justice lead to him seeking out those in need of correction. Eventually his zeal was too much even for his order and he was given a plot of land and a "thank you for your service." Even there he could not find peace as his farm was attacked by bandits and he was driven to the city as one of the refugees he was once despised.
In the New World his combat experience and proclivity for violence quickly elevated him to leadership of one of the more savage bands of settlers, who settled west of the Penitent Bay.
