Kingsport

Kingsport is a city with a very old and haunted past. In one form or another, it has existed since before the Meredian Empire, though under many a different name long forgotten. They say that the ghosts of a thousand tragedies walk the streets at night. And indeed the city has suffered many a tragedy. There is a legend it was once leveled by a Kraken killing tens of thousands of citizens. Another legend tells of a time when the dead rose up and walked the streets, displacing the living for a short span of time, yet another of a mysterious hail of meteors raining down. Not to mention plagues, fires and sacking by barbarian hordes. And yet, the city endures.

  Recent History
Before the Sharpes took power, the city of Kingsport was the capital of Yourkeland under the reign of King Edrand VII. He was an incompetent king at best, vindictive and paranoid at worst. He was much more inclined to enjoy the decadence his position awarded rather than enact fair and just rule over the land. The citizenry would often say they had lost the dice role when it came to inept lordship. Thus, when the disciplined armies of Sharpes arrived and laid siege to the city the immanent victory was decisive. King Edrand was an even more inept war strategist and the city fell. Oblivious to spies within his inner circle, the king all but opened the gates to the enemy. The silver lining at this time was that since the assault was fairly quick, there was less damage and loss of life. As the new empire took hold, Edrand was summarily executed and the Sharpes installed Duchess Lysane, an apparent sympathizer to the new regime, as a steward. Kingsport became somewhat of a city state under the authority of the Sharpes. Ironically, not much changed for the populace. Rampant crime and supernatural threats continued as prevalent as ever. Though the presence of the Sharpe soldiers as well as the occasional purge of mages are reminders that oppression, in one form or another, never changes.
