recap; Umbalt has fallen into a state of coma, Mitsunari goes to find the miracle doctor in town, and Ella and Yasu are on their way to find the seven magical balls

Mitsunari was a little fairy, and the world was big and bright and harsh. even so, he tried his best for the sake of his beloved companion Umbalt. He heard of a miracle doctor in town, who's name was unknown but had an obvious tell of blonde hair and a cat like appearance. So he wandered around town, flying high until he caught a glimpse of blonde in the crowd, and to his surprise, that miracle doctor with his miraculous appearance did not match his demeanor, for he expected most doctors to display a warm, and compassionate attitude.
But he heard his voice didn't register with his yellow, bright image as he grumbled, "What do you mean, it's not enough? It's more than enough to last us two days, at least!". Alongside the blonde doctor, there was another, smaller girl with brown, rusty hair who seemed unwilling to partake in the conversation. It had seemed that the blonde doctor was arguing with the clerk at the counter about lodging.
And Mitsunari flew to them, careful not to startle them with his form - people had fast reflexes, and he was afraid to be squashed like a bug. "Hello there," he greeted. his greeting was met by a green glare and another curious gaze by the girl - perhaps they had never seen a fairy before. "I heard you're the miracle doctor - Ieyasu, was it? i'm a representative from the palace, and I have a matter to discuss with you." Ieyasu sneered. "A small fairy is a representative of the palace? don't make me laugh." But Mitsunari was used to people laughing at him that it took him no effort to glide it off. "Yes. if you are willing to take my offer - or at least consider it - I am obligated and privileged to give you both housing and a hearty meal."
His gaze flashed emerald at the word 'housing', and the girl's brightened at 'hearty meal'. Maybe they were not wealthy people? What kind and generous people they must be, to help others in need even at their own expense. he thought. Umbalt would be safe in their care. The doctor turned to Ella, raised a single eyebrow and was met by an enthusiastic nod. He frowned at that for some reason, and apprehensively looked at Mitsunari. "We'll take your offer. But let's talk somewhere more discreet."
Apparently, the talk of free housing and free meals and perked the ears of passerbys, and Mitsunari was not aware of their attention. he had been so unused to the attention of anyone except Umbalt that it was overwhelming. "Yes," he said. "Shall we?"

And a miracle half-cat doctor, a novice magician girl and a small fairy with silver hair went to the direction of the palace, where people gaped at them with bugged eyes and dropped jaws. Ieyasu seemed displeased by that, so he tugged his cloak over his head and glared at them. Once they had reached the castle, Ieyasu asked: "What's this task you have? surely, you didn't need to find a miracle doctor from out of town for a fever, no?"
Mitsunari shook his head. "Indeed. A fellow companion of mine has fell into....a deep sleep. Perhaps it was fatigue or exhaustion, but she has not woken up." One skeptical eyebrow shot up, "A deep sleep? how long has it been?". "A few days now. specifically, three." Ieyasu considered this. "Has there been any physical symptoms? Slowed heart rate? Blue fingers?". He shook his head again. "None that is not ordinary. However, there is...well, it's easier if I show you."
Mitsunari flew to the windows above the big doors of the archive and slipped inside. He told them both to enter through the door, as it was unlocked. The first thing Ieyasu saw was the rows and rows of books. There were sections for scrolls, sections for textbooks, maps sprawled on the floors and pinned on the walls... it was truly a labyrinth of knowledge, and Ieyasu felt unruly anger simmer in him. He wondered if this dull witted little fairy had realised how privileged he was to be surrounded by knowledge, be exposed to it so thoroughly, when Ieyasu had to light a candle flame to study and overpower his former masters. But he knows that it was simply unchecked anger, so he pushed it deep down and walked towards the sound of Mitsunari's voice.
There, he was greeted with a sight: A woman wearing night robes and long hair, lying in a bed. The flush of her skin was normal - Ieyasu assumed the fairy had figured out some way to force nutrients into her body - and from what he could hear, her breathing was too. Until – he saw black spots littering her forearm, and some on the exposed ankle of her legs. He narrowed his eyes. "Is this what you're worried about?" if he was right, then....
"Yes. I couldn't find anything in any medical journals talking about black spots, and it is not exactly signs of some former plague. it struck me as unusual, and I thought you would have some knowledge about it.". "I do." He had seen this sight countless times before. First, it was hallucinations. Second, a loss of memory. Third, inability to recall events. Fourth, a weakened cognitive functions. And finally, a complete loss of body control. "Three days, you said? have you been observing the rate of these black spots appearing?" Mitsunari nodded. "On the first, it appeared like dust fragments – or rough granules on the tips of her hands. Overnight, it seemed to double in growth, and it appeared in slightly bigger spots around the soles of her feet. Third," He tugged open the hem of her robes and exposed her collarbone. "It reached to her neck."

This wasn't an uncommon sight to Ieyasu. He had seen it before especially among the people living in the outer ring. Slowly their bodies would be consumed by the black spots, turning them from humans to soulless shells. However, beside him, Ella's face showed that she had absolutely no idea about the condition they were looking at. Having lived in the forest for most of her life, she would remember if she ever met anyone that had spots on their hands and feet. When she leaned in to examine Umbalt closely, and entered Ieyasu's peripheral vision, he suddenly realized that she had been standing there all this time.
He sighed. He didn't know any cure to what was happening to Umbalt, but there wouldn't be any harm in alleviating any possible pain and - hopefully - stop it from spreading. He fished around his robes for his sack of coins, carefully handing a small handful of golden coins to Ella. "Go out to the market and do what we were supposed to do today. Remember, ONLY plants of value. VALUE. Remember what I taught you? Don't bring back grass this time."
Happy to help, Ella received the coins with a smile and tried to make her way out of the palace, only to get lost roaming around the hallways. It wasn't her fault, they really did look identical. Wondering if she should turn right and end up heading towards the inner court where the courtesans were, or turning left and probably find herself in the dungeons, she suddenly felt overwhelmed at the maze like palace of the kingdom. Quite fortunately and extremely luckily, the lone figure had managed to catch the attention of two passersby. "Oh, it's one of the guests Mitsunari invited," Yuu pointed out. Her companion was munching on a dish of sesame tofu. "I think she's lost- Ah! You can't go that way!"

They ran up to her and caught her arm. "That's where the empress' ladies go," Muwi said. Yuu turned ella a full 90 degrees and gave her a pat. "Keep going straight, then turn left, make a right, take the third exit in the roundabout, and then you'll see the entrance," She sniffed. "It's okay, we got lost when we first came here too." "... Uh..." Ella stammered. Why was there a roundabout in a castle? Seeing her confusion, Yuu's eyes softened like that of a mother's. The turtles exchanged a look and shrugged. "We were planning on going out anyway, here, we'll drop you off then."
And thanks to her amazing luck hax skills, she managed to find two escorts to lead her directly to the entrance, straight into the crowds of citizens busying about doing their daily chores. She introduced herself to them, and they told her their names in return. The turtle princesses Muwi and Yuu. "If you need any help, you can come and find us," Yuu smiled. "Yeah just find any live fish or sea animal and tell them you want us," Muwi added. Dismissing the idea that live sea animals could understand human language, ella parted ways with them, and began walking among the merchants.
She found a herbalist's store, and examined their wares, but they were either 'not of value', or 'TOO VALUABLE'. She was sure Ieyasu wanted something in between, so she would leave empty handed. The longer she roamed, the more her thoughts became distracted, going further and further away from plants. She found herself straying away from the merchants and ended up in the entertainment district. Hot ladies and guys tried to attract people's attention, redirecting them to dancing troupes and travelling performers with their exotic animals.
She watched as a man lit a frog shaped hoop on fire, twirling it in his hand, as a majestic bird began to weave in and out of it, unafraid of the flames. At the sight, she suddenly remembered something that she had read in her master's books when she was younger. About a certain species of eagles that made the Kerorun flatlands their home, though some of them were scattered all throughout the world. It was said that one of them, born an ordinary eagle, fell out of its nest and landed into a pool of mystical magic. As it soaked up the waters, it absorbed unfathomable knowledge, ego, and strength. It was said that the little chick somehow grew to become an extremely big bird, unlike the world had ever seen. His clansmen, as if just serving under him could bless them, gained these magical feathers as well. A symbol of strength and vitality, it was known as what doctors would call a miracle cure item. "If only i could find something as cool as one of those eagle feathers," she sighed.

She looked at the collage of coins in her hands, and thought about Ieyasu's disappointed face. It had been burned into her mind countless times now. Letting her eyes wander to the stalls, the scent of good food wafted and made her drool helplessly. No! She berated herself. Ieyasu had given her these coins for one and one reason only, and she wasn't about to betray his expectations - or whatever was left of them for her. The best way to resist temptation was to distance yourself from it, so Ella found shade under a tree not too far away from the hustle and bustle of the market and the people.
She sighed. "Why can't I do anything right....?" She felt that same feeling of alienation again, when Ieyasu was talking to the little fairy about the woman with polka dots on her body. She didn't understand a thing, and the thought cut deep into her insecurities. If she was not to help or be of help to Ieyasu, then isn't the best thing for her to do is to not get in his way? She closed her eyes and felt tears burning behind her eyelids. But before a tear was shed, she heard the small, squeaky coos beside her. She moved cautiously and saw that it was a young, small baby bird, presumably fallen from it's nest.
It was silly, but Ella had felt some sort of connection with this baby bird. Barely feathered, dependent on it's parent. she slapped her cheeks. "No use feeling bad for yourself! All I have to do right now is try my hardest!" The words weren't her own – it was borrowed from Ieyasu's. Although he was never soft spoken than he was cold, he never complained more than a grumble and worked steadfast. It was a quality she admired, and for now she kept that in mind. "Come now, little birdy," she cooed. "Shall we get you up?" she cupped the baby bird in her hands gently and tried to recall a spell for flight. "Abracadabra? Or was it, um... hocus pocus?"
But the bird did not levitate. "Avada kedavra? Maybe?" The little bird looked at her with it's black, beady eyes. "Umm.... I'm sorry birdy. I can't help you, I'm too useless..." But the baby bird did not understand this and merely stared at Ella. "Well, I can help you be warm, if anything." She lowered herself against the roots of the tree and closed her eyes. She was too tired. "Good night, birdy."

She was awoken by an angry screech and she yelled. A large bird appeared in front of her and she panicked. "AAAAAAAAA I'M SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN TO KIDNAP YOUR CHILD" The momma bird seemed satisfied with her apology and swooped her baby and flew up, up up into the branches of the tree where it had it's nest. Ella breathed in and out. "Angry birds... are scary..." Something tickled her hands. "Hm? what's this?" She turned it this way and that, admiring the seemingly regal red and black coloured feather in her hand. "A pretty feather... oh! Maybe I can sell this at the market! It's so pretty, I'm sure it's worth some value, right?"
So Ella skipped happily into the market, bringing the feather with her. She walked to one of the merchants, who was willing to barter instead of spending gold. "Hiya mister!" She cheered, and showed him the feather in her palm. "Do you think this feather would um...catch a high price?" She couldn't be blamed, she'd never experienced any sort of interaction between people before, even less buying/selling something herself. The man's eyes bugged out of it's sockets, and she hesitated. Was it too silly after all? "I can offer you this music box for that feather of yours, girl! Hahaha!"
A music box? She didn't know what that was but it sounded interesting. Apparently, the curiosity showed on her face and the man brought forth a wooden case, it's top shining nicely and decorated with bits of silver. "I wouldn't give away something so valuable to a customer, but you seem like a sweet young lady, so I'll cut a deal." The man winked. "Oh! that's truly kind, thank you!" Ella was about to hand over the feather before someone stayed her arm. Ella looked to the person next to her – a cloaked figure, with features she couldn't discern and half a head taller.

"A sweet young lady, hm?" the person said, and Ella realised it was the lull of a womanly voice. "Then what about someone like me?" The woman shifted slightly, and Ella caught the glimpse of knives strapped at her thighs and gulped. Was she going to die? Was she being robbed, right now? The woman had thought the same thing. "I made the offer first. my deal with her stands more than yours." The woman shrugged, a slight movement of her shoulder that exposed her hand positioned at the hilt of a dagger. "That's not barely enough, and you know it."
The woman looked at Ella next, and she felt all her thoughts scramble and go on vacation when she spoke. "You, girl. This feather is worth more than a music box. You could've asked for five bagfuls of coin worth." Ella gulped once more, and turned her gaze towards the merchant, who was now busy packing up his stall. "Go away, thieving rat scum. I know better to sacrifice being investigated by those official pricks than having a deal stolen under my nose. Shoo." The woman grabbed an apple from the cart of apples on his stall and took a bite. "Much obliged."
The cloaked woman took Ella by the arm and began half dragging her away from the stalls, her feather still secure in her hand. "Do you even know what you have there?" She asked. Ella looked at the feather. It was pretty and it shone under the sun, but wasn't just an ordinary feather from a bird? She shook her head. "That's one of those big eagle feathers, you know the ones, their feathers are supposedly really good for vitality." The girl gasped at the revelation. So this was the feather she had read about in the books? It was so, unassuming, and ordinary, but the more she looked at it, the more she became convinced that there really was a mystical aura to it.
"I can't believe I almost gave it away for a music box... t-thank you for telling me... um," Ella paused. "You can call me Cam," The stranger said, their grip on Ella's arm still firm as they led them into the winding alleyways of the city. "Keep your head forward, three people have been tailing you ever since you came into the market area, pretend you don't know." Despite the advice just given to her, Ella began to panic and sweat. Has her luck always been so bad that she had almost been scammed, and was now getting stalked by unknown individuals right after the other?

Passing through an alleyway, they found themselves facing a main road. Horse drawn carriages passed before their eyes, and in an instant Cam pulled Ella behind one, continuing to walk parallel to it and disappearing into the crowd before ducking into another shadowed small road, ducking behind a pile of wooden crates. "Not gonna lie, you look like somebody who gets into a lot of trouble..." Cam tugged at the witch's clothing. "People in the city don't dress like this, at least put a cloak on." From seemingly nowhere, Cam somehow produced a bundled up piece of cloth. "My extra cloak," She winked, and threw it around Ella's shoulders. Then, she somehow pulled out a large-rimmed hat.
"Um. Where did you get that?" She said, hesitant. "Oh, i snapped it up from a merchant on the way here." Cam's reply was nonchalant as if the idea of stealing was no big deal to her. She placed it snugly on Ella's head, hiding most of her features. "And just to make it easier for you, and because it transforms your whole face, how about we try tying your hair up?" To Ella it honestly just seemed like Cam was giving her a makeover. But when she thought about it did make sense to change up her clothes - now that she was looking around, most of the passersby were wearing either extravagant clothing, having come from the upper ring, or shabbier - but not as shabby as her - but presentable and colorful clothing, from the middle ring and below.
Cam made short work of her hair, doing a quick long braid that she draped around Ella's shoulder. Now she had the aesthetic of some merchant's daughter. "Very nice," Cam said, showing a thumbs up. "Now you don't look like some shrimp that crawled out of a pigpen." Ella was so touched by this stranger's dedication to helping her that she felt like she was about to cry. "T-thank you so much," She managed to choke out. "I've never met someone so nice before." Considering she had only ever really 'met' one other person and he was a complete grump. Cam laughed. "Now you blend in - but if you think anyone's following you, make sure you don't look behind you, and try to walk fast and outrun them, alright?" They stepped out onto the main road and Ella, for the first time in her life, felt like she belonged in the city. She'd never been in the city before so that statement was extremely correct.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the street, two white-cloaked individuals were casually strolling down the street. Muwi had somehow gotten her hands on a new plate of sesame tofu, and Yuu was staring at her like she was some sort of glutton - which she was. "That's the fourth plate you've had today." Muwi prodded a corner of the tofu with her spoon. "I've been trying to figure out that man's recipe, he makes the best ones." Yuu blinked. "But you can't cook for your life.", "But it's about trying.", "Who're you trying for?", "Nobody."
"Ah, your special friend." Yuu hid her smile behind her sleeve, a mischievous expression on her face. Her friend scrunched up her nose, sticking her tongue out. "I-i have no idea who you're talking about!" She practically shouted as she scoffed down the remains of whatever was on her plate. It was exactly at this moment when they spotted Ella for the second time that day. "It's Ella," Muwi said, lowering her now clean plate. "With somebody we don't know," Yuu added.
Even though Cam had said that the cloak would make 'you blend in', it was clear to Yuwi. The cloaked stranger stuck out like a sore thumb. They both narrowed their eyes. "Shady," Muwi whispered. "Suspicious," Yuu murmured. Muwi threw the plate behind her, it miraculously landed in the bin. And putting on their work face - that is, a surprisingly intimidating face for someone of their small stature - began walking towards Ella and her companion.
Ella, who had her back to them, didn't notice the two princesses approaching. But cam, who was facing towards them, visibly paled at their appearance. She took hold of Ella by the shoulder and looked at her with warm eyes. "Ella, you're very cute. And also so innocent." at that, she yanked the feather out of Ella's hand cleanly. "I was the third person who was following you, by the way, you shouldn't trust people so easily." Cam wiped away one of Ella's happy tears. "And don't cry for strangers either." Shooting the witch a wink, Cam quickly disappeared into the shadows of the alleyway.

"Ah-", "hello, Ella!" Yuu called out. "Did you finish what you came to do?", "SHE STOLE MY FEATHER!". The two Princesses leaned their heads closer and looked down the alleyway. there was nobody there. "Who, your friend just then?". Ella suddenly felt woozy, as if she couldn't understand that somebody who had been so kind to her could suddenly rob her at the last moment. Did... did they not have trust between them? Muwi scratched her head awkwardly, "I- i didn't get a good look at them..." She mumbled, almost apologetically. "I would chase them if I did."
Yuu, like a mother, drew Ella's head to her chest, and began comforting her. "There, there. We'll... put a word out to the fishies, they can help look for them. For now, how about we head back to the palace? You can relax there," Yuu said softly. "but Ieyasu... he'll be mad I didn't bring anything back..." Ella sobbed. With their errands having been done, the two Princesses guided Ella back towards market. Now with two escorts with quite the reputation, it seemed nobody was interested in charging Ella for more than an item's worth. Ella, now beaming with pride as she received a bag of St. John's wort, was oblivious to the nervousness of the shopkeeper who was trying his best not to look at the two flanking Ella on either side, blinking innocently - but to the shopkeeper, it might as well have been a formal inspection of the premises.
Together, they walked back towards the palace, Ella's mood slightly better than it was before, all three of them chatting happily ordinary things. Ella had never had the chance to talk to those who were considered 'aristocrats', though Yuwi were considered more like soldiers or guards, having left their court lady lives. As they passed under the front gates, standing beside one of the inner entrances was Ieyasu, whose expression showed nothing but annoyance.

"Ella," He began. "Where. Were. You.". "Buying herbs.". "It takes you that long to buy herbs?" As the two bickered, with Ieyasu expertly hiding his concern, Yuu found herself staring at this blonde haired cat-eared individual. Muwi stared back at her friend, then at the man, and then back. Her eyes narrowed with amusement. "Ohoho," She said, as she nudged the girl's side. "What?" Yuu snapped out of her daze, her cheeks were lightly dusted with pink. "That's... the doctor we keep hearing about, right?". "Yes, the cat doctor. I guess you can't make fun of me anymore," Muwi laughed aloud.
It broke the argument between the timid witch and Ieyasu, who simply sighed at the interruption. "You know what- just... come back inside. It's cold out here." "Ieyasu..." Ella mumbled, grasping the back of his clothes as he turned back around. "I'm sorry i wasn't much help..." He didn't say anything for a while. But his reply was simply a shake of his head. "It's fine," He said. He reached out to take the package she had brought, looking down at its contents. "St John's worts. Antidepressants. We always need those." The blond cast his green eyes away from the witch, "Good job, I suppose."
Ella smiled with so much joy she might as well have turned into the sun, she skipped ahead into the palace, hopefully into the right direction, leaving behind the doctor and the two Princesses. Ieyasu's eyes landed on them. "Thanks for bringing her back," He said, in a low voice. "You're the... Empress' bodyguards?" He'd heard things about them, despite being protectors of the Empress herself, they were also concerned about the people's safety. A rarity among aristocrats, Ieyasu thought, when he remembered the family that used to own him. "I'm N-nyanyasu," He says, a faint blush on his cheeks as if he was embarrassed. "I'm Muwi.", "I-i'm Yuu," She stammered. Her friend snickered beside her at this.
The doctor inclined his head as if he acknowledged them before turning away. "Then i guess i hope to see you around," He said, before making his way back towards the archives.
Now that Ieyasu's worries had been soothed, he returned to the library, where the woman named Umbalt slept.
"She's back," He announced to Mitsunari, who had been in an apprehensive state. "Bought back St. John's worts and antidepressants, it'll help her for now. At least – slow it down." Mitsunari's brows knitted as some complex emotion flitted his face, but he replaced it with a smile the second he realised what he must've looked like. "I'm sorry. Thank you very much, doctor." Ieyasu shifted uncomfortably. "Just Ieyasu is fine.". "Well then... Ieyasu." The sound felt – odd. In some misplaced memory, the sound brought forth a burning sensation in his mouth - it was spice, a whole lot of it.

"Why are you here, Ieyasu?" There was no luck that could explain a miracle doctor coming into town, no matter how much Mitsunari had wished for it. "Searching for something. Chasing a myth." Ieyasu lowered himself onto the cold floors of the library and let himself breathe. "Have you heard of the seven magical balls?" Mitsunari perked up - him being a small, little thing, it was hard not to notice - and his silver eyes turned to Ieyasu. "Yes! Would you like to hear the legend? I've been up all night with Umbalt reading and decrypting old counts of folktown regarding it!" Ieyasu was used to Ella, therefore he was used to excited kids. "Sure."
Mitsunari beamed at him and flew up into a section of the library before returning with a worn out looking journal. "This is one of the recounts of the magical balls," He said. "No one truly knows where it came from, but we do know what happened when people found it.". "They made a wish, didn't they? If they found them all?". "Yes." But the set of Mitsunari's jaw and the twinkle in his eyes told Ieyasu that he wasn't done. "But there were consequences." See, this is why you shouldn't trust magic. Ieyasu thought. Mitsunari thumbed through the pages until he reached the one he wanted. Slowly, slowly, he pushed the heavy book towards Ieyasu, who gave him a deadpan stare the whole time.
Ieyasu spared some pity for the little fairy and picked up the book in his hands instead. He dragged his eyes over the lines of words, squinting where there was smudges, and knotting his eyebrows at the end of it. "Tell me what you see," Mitsunari encouraged. "It says here there was beggar who had become rich overnight. Apparently it was because of the magical balls?". "Correct. And that's not all.". "Yeah. It says here he died of a disease two days later.". "Yes. There are some old medical jargon that I couldn't make sense of, so I was hoping you could..." Ieyasu scrutinised the text again. "... His body was covered in black spots. Just like the ones your friend has."
Ieyasu closed his eyes again and shut the book, pushing it back Mitsunari's way. "I know this disease. We call it Mental Occupancy Leech Disease. Stands for MOLD. It's when the patient experiences hallucinations, they shapeshift and turn into something beast like, and they have no memory of it ever happening. It's something inside, a parasite, a leech, that overcomes them. Gradually, they lose their whole body and mind to that leech and it kills them from the inside –" Ieyasu pointed at Umbalt's forearms "–and its earliest symptoms is a manifestation of black spots on their skin."
Mitsunari's face was as white as the blank scrolls around them. "... is there no way to help?". "For now, I can only give her antidepressants so she can fight giving into the disease. But..." "... but what?". "No. Nothing yet. I'll have to figure it out." Ieyasu's minds had started to form a constellation of patterns – the legendary balls, MOLD, and Umbalt's dreamlike state. What if the balls were related with the disease?

  Meanwhile—
A stranger's footsteps settled lightly on the wooden floors, even though it was old and squeaky. As usual, her friend never was the type to renew things. She rapped her knuckles against the door of the pathetic shack and waited patiently for an impatient grumble and the harsh wind of the door flying open. "What?! –you... you're here?" Cam pulled away the hood of her cloak and greeted her old friend with a casual, carefree smile.
"Hello," she leaned against the door, resting her hips on walls. "Missed me?" Creaky's features tangled itself into a disgruntled mess and harrumphed. "If you can call it that. What brings you here?" she stepped aside, allowing Cam to enter her shack. "I have something of value," Her smile was sly. "Have you heard of the magical feather?"
