The Broken Choir

The Broken Choir is a revered pantheon of deities, the last remnants of divine power on Eryndralis, who were both creators of life and saviors of existence. Their story is a tale of boundless creativity, profound loss, and ultimate sacrifice in the face of an unfathomable enemy, the Endless Maw.

The Aria of Creation

Approximately 6,500 years ago, the First Choir, the progenitors of the Broken Choir, emerged from the Azure Dream. Together, these deities shaped Eryndralis, crafting a harmonious world brimming with diverse forms of life. The deities walked freely between the Azure Dream and their creation, marveling at the beauty of their work and sharing their gifts of wisdom and vitality with the beings they made.
For some time, Eryndralis flourished walking alongside their creators. Its skies were alive with ethereal winds, its oceans teeming with vitality, and its lands fertile and abundant. This was the Aria of Creation, a song that resonated in every living thing, uniting all in a symphony of existence.

The Endless Maw's Jealousy

But not all was at peace. The Endless Maw, a formless void, had dwelled in the void for eternity. When it noticed the radiant world of Eryndralis, it grew envious and wrathful. The Maw sought to reclaim the void it perceived as its rightful domain by consuming all of creation. Its advance heralded devastation—whole regions were devoured, and countless beings were unmade in its wake.
The First Choir, witnessing this horror, took up arms in defense of their beloved world. Thus began a divine battle that spanned centuries. The deities, mighty though they were, found themselves outmatched by the Endless Maw’s insatiable hunger and boundless power. The First Choir, now broken and their numbers reduced to only ten—Altheris, Aril, Aurelion, Kaelos, Khyra, Nyssara, Oryn, Tareth, Varek, and Zephyros—feared the worst.

The Song of the Shattered

In the climactic final moments of the war, the Endless Maw threatened to undo all existence. Faced with annihilation, the deities made the ultimate sacrifice. Channeling the very essence of their divinity, they wove a binding melody of immense power, the Song of the Shattered, sealing the Endless Maw in a prison of void and light and scattering it to the far reaches of Uncreation. This act, however, demanded their own unmaking. Their forms shattered, their voices faded, and the Broken Choir fell.
Yet even in destruction, they left behind a legacy. Their essence scattered across Eryndralis, gifting its peoples two priceless treasures:
The Aegis Tongue, a spark of divine thought that endowed mortals with reason, self-awareness and granted them them speech.
The The Ten Currents of Magic, fragments of their divine nature that manifested as Aeromancy, Terramancy, Pyromancy, Hydromancy, Electromancy, Luxmancy, Vitamancy, Animancy, Psychomancy, and Chronomancy. These currents would allow mortals to wield a fraction of the power the Broken Choir had once used to protect them.

Legacy and Worship

Though their voices are silent, the Broken Choir remains ever-present in the hearts and minds of Eryndralis’s people. Their sacrifice is honored in hymns, rituals, and the telling of the Song of the Shattered, ensuring that their memory endures through the ages and that their silent voices may still sing freely. The Azure Dream, their once-home, is now viewed as a sacred realm, a reminder of the beauty the Broken Choir created and defended at such great cost.
Temples to the Broken Choir often depict their silhouettes against the swirling chaos of the Endless Maw, their poses radiating courage and defiance. Worshipers strive to emulate their virtues: creation, courage, and the willingness to sacrifice for the greater good.
To uphold the memory of the Broken Choir is not just a duty but a sacred calling. In their fragmented divinity, they continue to guide and inspire, whispering to the hearts of mortals that even in the face of annihilation, unity and sacrifice can preserve the light of creation.
