Echoism

Among the tribes of Caede, as well as hidden sects within the Pactlands, the gnostic Keepers of the Silent Echo cling to a different interpretation of the Song of the Shattered Choir. Their traditions, passed down in cryptic riddles, fables, and mathematically intricate songs, hold that the gods’ sacrifice was not a harmonious act but a desperate gambit to delay annihilation.   The Keepers teach that The Hunger Without is not merely a distant cosmic entity but an ever-present corruption. Its whispers creep into the hearts of the powerful, twisting the divine essence that remains in the world. According to the Keepers, the High Magus Council itself is compromised, and its centralized control of magic is a ploy to suppress the truth and tighten the Maw’s grip on the world.   The Great Parting, revered by the Pactlands as a moment of creation, is instead seen by the Keepers as the first fracture of the gods. The ten currents of magic, which the Pactlands treat as divine gifts, are instead described as the Shattered Notes, each representing a fragment of the gods’ dying power. This fracturing was a failure to unite in the face of the Endless Maw—a sign that the gods themselves were fallible.   The Keepers of the Echo view the rare Seers as particularly dangerous figures. The eyes of a Seer, they believe, can pierce the veil of the Maw, making them both potential saviors and prime targets for corruption. Redseers, so rare as to be myth, are whispered to be harbingers of either salvation or destruction.
