Coil and Rail weaponry: The workhorse of the 24th century

Rail and Coil weapons are weapons which uses the electromagnetic force to propel a compact projectile at insane velocities. This power is run through either coils or rails, and when the projectile passes through, it becomes accelerated until leaving the barrel. These weapons are the most common weapon in the 24th century, almost entirely replacing traditional gunpowder weapons in the Brotherhood of the Crimson Dawn. Ranging from pistols and rifles to artillery pieces and strategic cannons. If it is said that a competent craftsman needs good tools, then rail and coil weaponry are the best tool the era has to offer.   Coilguns in the era of superstates.  Coilguns are by far the most abundant weapon type in the 24th century, its appearance can be seen in any branch of the red military, whether it be the airforce, army or navy. The coilgun in this era are known as "hybrid" weaponry. It is know as such because of the way munitions are propelled. A Coilgun cartridge is composed of 2 parts, a small gunpowder propulsion chamber to initiate the firing process, and the bullet itself: composed of a solid tungsten composite. A electromagnetic coil is then present along the barrel, generating a magnetic field that would accelerate projectiles to great velocities when it passed through them.   This type of weapon is advantageous compared to traditional pure gunpowder weapon because of their low recoil, high accuracy, greater fire rate and increased penetration.  No weapon is perfect, however, a flaw is present in any weapon. For the coilguns, that issue was power. For to propel bullets at required velocities, a tremendous amount of power was needed and for the coilgun, this power is provided by powercell technologies. For the TECs clad troops of the red nation, this power is leeched off the main suit power, reducing its autonomy by a small amount each firing. A single powercell unit can be used to fire 800 rounds of standard TEC issue rifle, lesser powercell units exist who can be mounted in the backpack of unarmoured infantry. These smaller cells can provide for 1000 rounds of fire for a standard issue infantry rifle.   Types of coilguns in the Brotherhood armies The coil-pistol : smallest calibre of coil weapons, firing a 10 mm bullet, this size of pistol is only issued to regular infantry as it lacks the power needed to puncture the TEC Suit armour but is amply sufficient vs unarmoured infantry. Having a 12 round magazine, this gun has an effective range of 100m. The powercell it is equipped with is capable of handling 36- 48 rounds before running out of charge.   The mag-rifle : common issue coilgun to non TECS units and also the most produced rifle within the Dawn armies. Firing a 12,5mm bullet, with an effective range of 500m against unarmored infantry, while still lacking the capabilities to harm TEC armored units. It is a longer and heavier version of the coil pistol, with an extended barrel, coil, magazine, powercell, etc. With a higher rate of fire comes a larger capacity powercell, rendering it too bulky to be mounted on the gun itself.Being mounted instead of the backpack of the trooper.    TEC rifle: Standard issue rifle for TECS enhanced soldiers. Having higher caliber and higher range compared to the standard mag rifle. It fires a 25mm supersonic AP round per standard that can be replaced with other types of munitions aswell. These devastating rounds can reach up to 2000 m effective range against infantry and 1000 meters effective range against other similar TEC armored troops, but to increase penetration chance, a reduction en engagement range from 1000 to 500-600 meters would be recommended. This rifle is too heavy for normal infantry to carry, but can be equipped to field emplacements and vehicles. This weapon can also be used at great effect against light vehicles. The magazine for a TEC rifle contains 20 of such rounds.   These are the 3 sizes of infantry coilguns present within the brotherhood army. while not as numerous compared to modern rounds, all these munitions sport countless variants, each fit for their own specialized circumstances, granting the army of the morning tools to defeat any opponent( or so they believe) Lager calibre hybrid weapons do exist but for calibers above 30mm, the army prefers the employment of rail weapons, as they allow for an more economic firing. Draining less power per shot compared to a similar sized coil weapon.    Large hybrid weapons These larger weapons encompass all calibres above 30 mm. A great many weapons exist in these size, ranging from simple 40mm autocannons mounted on anti-aircraft weapons platforms to the 200mm mag artillery. These weapons share the same characteristic as their smaller counterparts, but are no longer man portable as the power required is so large as to outpace the output of a simple powercell, requiring instead the power of a power core. Restricting the weapons to be vehicle mounted or built in stationary casemates for defensive positions.    Railguns in the age of supersates. Unlike their hybrid conterparts, which still require a small initial charge of explosive to initiate the firing mechanism, railguns rely entirely upon the powerful magnetic fields contained within sets of rails to propel a,usually, solid core projectile at great speeds. This sort of weapon is favoured for anti armour purposes, making up the entirety of anti armor direct fire weaponry within the Brotherhood of the crimson dawn. The rail weapon systems have lower fire rate but higher projectile velocity and accuracy at long distances along with lower power drain for weapons of larger calibres. The downside of such weapon design is its extreme weight, leading to them being restricted to static emplacements or mounted on vehicles.    Types of railguns in the Brotherhood armies rail precision rifle: 25mm in calibre, this rifle fires a solid shot tungsten at ranges of up to 6 km. It is effective against unarmoured infantry for up to 3km and effective at up to 2km for TEC armoured units. The rifle has no magazine, instead loading in single shells one at a time. This rifle is powered by a powercell system similar to the hybrid rifles and is suited for TEC infantry only as its weight renders it hardly mobile to regular infantry. Its powercell system can handle up to 600 shots before needing a cell change. This weapon has some effect on light armor aswell, being capable of penetrating light recon vehicles and non armored transports    30mm air-to-air dueling gun: desinged for air to air combat out of necessity to counter the ever increasing airframe durability and steal technology, this weapon can be mounted in arrays on modern null inertia aircraft. Being able to target other planes at 6km away, with great accuracy. Not many aircraft of the 24th century can survive being hit with a direct volley of such weapons. This gun is modified to have a higher fire rate, fit for the air duels of the 24th century and most unusual of all: fire proximity fragmentation rounds as well as its traditional solid shots. Its power drain might be large but it is negated by the powercore system superstate era airframes are usually equipped with.   40mm interception cannons: mounted on ground based anti aircraft platforms, these guns shoot solid shots or fragmentary rounds against mid-altitude or low altitude planes.   40mm- 150mm anti armour mag cannons: Just like any anti armour gun, it shoots a solid core anti armour composite core shell at great ranges, surpassing 15km maximum. Although effective ranges vary depending on what target it faces. Such weapons are almost all vehicles mounted or in fixed emplacements. Guns of a variety of ranges exist between, enough to penetrate almost any armour encountered on the 24h century battlefield    200mm and 350 mm bombardment cannons: mounted on only 2 types of weapon platform in the entire brotherhood: The Flying fortress and the siege artillery carrier. The 200mm railgun is made for flying dreadnoughts , capable of outputting death from above in the form of anti fortress munitions, laying waste to entire columns of armour or fortified emplacements alike.  The 350mm cannon is made for one and one purpose only: to lay waste to the fortifications surrounding brotherhood dominions. These bunkers are often buried deep beneath the ground, sometimes entire mountains are hollowed out or fortified cities built beneath the soil. Meters of plating cover this structure. Devastating weapon networks lay inside these structures, making assaulting them a nigh impossible task. Hence this cannon and its 300kg fortress killer rounds. due to its size, the 350mm needs 2 dedicated powercores to provide it the power it needs.
