Hollow Lake
"O how lovely is the sight of Hollow Lake, crystal waters by kind sand bound.
An excerpt from the memoir of Edgar the Lonely
But when the Night has thrown her pall, and the mystic wind goes by.
Then- ah then you would awake to the terror that is Hollow Lake.
Death is in its treacherous wave, and in its gulf a fitting grave."
Geography
The lake's size varies constantly from 12 to 100 square miles (30 to 260 square kilometers). The lake bed is made up out of a silky mud, it's muddy beaches are riddled with fallen trees, thick branches and other natural debris. The areas around the lake are damp and muddy for miles around. During the day the lake is usually quite still, while at night it begins to rise rapidly, its expanding dimensions and the extent of water gives rise to high leaping waves and a powerful undercurrent with a strong pull towards the lake center. At the lowest, most central point of the lake a deep chasm can be found that leads into a submerged cave system. The contents of these caves remain unexplored to this day. Scholars agree it must hold the lake's water during the day time, but what force causes the water to be expelled at night is subject to much speculation.
Fauna & Flora
For unknown reasons no beast or plant can be found living inside the waters of Hollow Lake. Much of the surrounding wildlife use it as a source of water, and often creatures are caught unaware by the rapidly rising waters and dragged off by the strong undercurrent.
