Mid-Summer

Midsummer. One of the most festive days of the year. It is celebrated almost everywhere for the same simple reason.   Midsummer is an age old tradition, which can be found all over the Reach. Even before The First Great Fall, it was celebrated in every stretch of the world, in many cultures so radically different who had never met before, it was still celebrated. This feast is a really important feast. Not only does it show that a quarter of the year has passed following the Laelen Calendar, which is the most commonly used calendars in the reach, and is just like all calendars a moon calendar. It also shows to people that things can be celebrated again, and it starts the new year of festivities and pleasure.   It is celebrated on the third moon after the start of the year, or at least using the Laelen Calendar and it shows that from that point on, the year will go better and better, because from that point forward, all the crops will be able to be harvested, and the chances that you'll survive until the next midwinter are extremely high. It is celebrated that you have survived another year, and it this is often done with a lot of celebration to gods are deities of things like Summer, plants and harvest as these are the thing celebrated at this feast. In many cultures it is also important to thank the gods of the Winter, Cold or Death for not taking their lives during the Dark Moon.   Because so many cultures celebrate Midsummer, it's really hard to tell concrete facts about this tradition because it is celebrated in so many different ways. Most cultures celebrate this a day of joy and freedom, even though some celebrate this as a day to think about all who died during the winter months. In each case, it is a day to begin the festivities, because before that there wouldn't be enough to eat to have a feast. It shows the everyone, from god to mortal soul, that happy times are to come.   Most cultures celebrate this with a lot of offerings and a lot of food eaten and drunk. They do this, so that not only do they have a lot to eat, the gods have too. Common foods for Midsummer depends a lot on each culture, but a common food that is found in many are Felai Berries, a species of berries which are known for it being very Yellow when ripe, which have gotten the common nickname 'Summer Berries', because of it's abundance during this time of year. Not only do they grow almost everywhere, and are really easy to find, they are very delicious, and it's really common to find all kinds of delicious cakes and such made from it. Almost no religions have something against eating Felai, because it would just be a stupid rule no-one would hold. That's how delicious they are. Felai Berries originate from Temnar, but they can be found all over The Reach, because of many folks taking plants of these berries with them to new places. It growns almost everywhere, because it is a plant that can easily adopt to different climates. It can grow in deserts, deep forests and on top of mountains.
