Show Wrestling

Nature: Defensive Origin: Orleas (Disputed) Flourish: Defensive

Show wrestling is an unorthodox grappling style that is practiced all over Prisma. Its practicioners are entertainers just as much as they are fighters, acting as modern day gladiators. Known just as much for its showy nature as it is for cultivating inhumanly muscular and tough fighters, many assume this grappling style is fake: Few claim this again after getting in the ring with a show wrestler. Although its roots are disputed, some of the earliest records of show wrestling are reported to be from traveling circuses of strongman wrestlers who would compete for the entertainment of the crowd.

Show wrestlers infamously do not block attacks. This is against the philosophy of show wrestling: They must power through any offense delivered to them to show off their immense fighting spirit! If they can, they should even power through the pain and completely no-sell their opponent's offense! Because of its immense ability to shrug off damage, Show Wrestling's flourish is Defensive!

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice Show Wrestling. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Entertain the crowd, show off your fighting spirit, and make sure to throw in plenty of flashy grappling!.

  • A Deva's Physique: Show Wrestlers train their bodies more than anything else! They are expected to look almost like bodybuilders, especially if they want to make it into the big time! They also never block, so instead they train to eradicate the feeling of pain from their body. This makes them extremely sturdy, capable of taking blows that would usually knock an experienced martial artist out cold.
  • Flashy, Unorthodox Offense: No other fighting style has offense anything like show wrestling. Many show wrestling competitions ban closed fists, so instead they rely on chops aimed right at the chest. They utilize numerous crazy throws like the Tiger Suplex, Powerbomb, DDT, and Piledriver! They may even utilize flashy submission moves, such as the Boston Crab or Cattle Crusher!
  • Cheers of the Crowd: Show wrestlers are most at home when they have a crowd to cheer them on! Cheers (or boos) typically empower show wrestlers to fight even harder! Show wrestlers will try to entertain their audience just as much as they fight to win!

Weapons

Steel Chair: Show wrestlers often wrestle in large arena with numerous steel folding chairs used for increased seating. It isn't an uncommon trope in wrestling matches for wrestlers to take an extra steel chair and smash it over an opponent's head. As such, the steel chair has become a signature weapon of the show wrestler.

  • Kendo Stick: Despite not being originally intended for show wrestling, show wrestlers from Jipangu begann to bring kendo sticks with them into show wrestling matches where improvised weapons were allowed. This practice proliferated around show wrestling compaies all over Prisma.
  • Tables: Admittedly not a weapon that is swung, but wooden tables have somehow found their way into show wrestling lore. Show wrestlers will often set up tables before throwing their opponents through them, or lay their opponent on the table before jumping from above to crush them over it.
