Liao Style

Nature: Technical Origin: Kun'lao Flourish: Crippling   Formerly known as the Liao Assassination Arts, Liao-Style Martial Arts is a martial arts style that Fheng Liao innovated. Formerly used to discretely kill targets, Fheng Liao transformed his family's martial arts style so that it may be used to protect others, although it still remains an extremely lethal style. It focuses on keeping battles short and deadly, with the user utilizing numerous techniques meant to cripple then either knockout or kill their opponents.   Liao-Style Martial Arts' Flourish is Crippling. This represents the styles efficiet but deadly nature, as its users can quickly neutralize their opponent by using such strategies as grabbing an opponent by their wrist and quickly jabbing them in the throat.

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice Liao-Style Martial Arts. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Ending combat as quickly and efficiently as possible through controlled bursts of offense.
  • Deadly Precision: Liao-Style focuses on developing a few simple punches, low kicks, and elbows and turning them into deadly weapons. Practicioners are taught the weak points of the human body so that they can simply find an opening and quickly take down their opponent.
  • Limb Grips: Liao-Style teaches its users to use the Talon Grip technique, allowing them to grab their opponents arms or legs and take control over their opponent's momentum from their grip. They can usually quickly follow up a grip with a strike to end the match. Liao-Style also teaches its fighters to use Talon Grip on an opponent's throat if possible, to deadly effect.
  • Claw Strikes: Particularly senior or sadistic fighters will slowly condition their fingers and nails so that they can use claw strikes. These attacks are capable of cutting through skin and allow the user to transform their hand into a series of small blades.

Weapons

Liao Style does not specialize in weaponed combat, due to its focus on developing the body itself into a weapon. Despite this, Liao Style does teach some weapons. Examples include:

  • Dao Blade: A short sword, often specialized in thrust attacks. Used gracefully and with precision.
  • Feathered Spear: A spear with feather-like decorations. Fitting of Fheng Liao's phoenix branding. Once again focused on thrust attacks.
  • Nunchaku: Adopted as part of Liao Style's self defense training, but can become formidable bludgeoning weapons. Are most useful at catching enemy limbs/weapons then counter attacking.
