Fists of the Gourmet

Nature: Balanced Origin: Kun'lao Flourish: Piercing

Fists of the Gourmet is an unorthodox martial arts style developed by the Culinary Huntsmen of Whole Plate Island. Similar to 5 Animals, Fists of the Gourmet has 5 different forms that they can switch between. These 5 different forms are based upon different elements of cooking: Baking, Seasoning, Butchering, Presenting, and Recipying. Unlike most martial arts, the Fists of the Gourmet is actually developed for use against monsters, with its users more used to fighting massive creatures. This makes it unorthodox in nature, although its 5 different forms nonetheless make it extremely useful in combat against any foe.

Fists of the Gourmet is a very flexible syle due ot its 5 forms. An adherent of the style will always have some kind of tool they can use to do the most damage to their target. Their ability to find the greatest means to do the most damage is reflected in their Piercing Flourish.

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice Fists of the Gourmet. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Having a wide array of tools that let the use stay confident against any kind of opponent.

  • Baking: The most precise and patient of the forms. Users take a defensive stance and wait for their opponent to come to them. Once the foe attacks, the user will quickly block or parry before counterattacking with the most efficient strike at the moment. Attacks are well measured and rarely flashy.
  • Seasoning: The most aggressive of the forms, focused primarily on fist fighting. Adherents will oftenn activate a Qi technique encasing their arms in flames before constantly rushing and delivering wild combinations of striking attacks. Makes use of some low kicks and sweeps as well.
  • Butchering: The most strength-based form in Fists of the Gourmet. Makes use of wide-sweeping arm swings or kicks. It is almost entirely offense based, with few defensive options. Users focus on delivering slower but more powerful swinging attacks capable of bursting through their opponents' defenses.
  • Presenting: The flashiest of the forms, using entirely kicks. Punches are not used as part of this form, instead, adherents will make user of combos of kicks. Acrobatic movements are encouraged, as is more unorthodox offens such as handstand and flying kicks.
  • Recipying: A form based mainly upon the usage of long-range Qi techniques. It is built around being able to parry and push opponents away before retreating so that the user may make use of a powerful Qi blast of some kind. Makes great use of sweeps and palm strikes, built almost entirely around keeping the opponent away.

Weapons

Fists of the Gourmet makes usage of numerous different kinds of weapons depending on the prey, examples of a few of these weapons include:

  • Butcher Blades: Cleavers are used as the standard bladed weapon for Culinary Huntsmen. Used to chop up and cut through large opponents. Butcher blades will often be duel-wielded.
  • Frying Pans: Despite not being intended for battle, frying pans make very efficient bludgeoning weapons. Can be used as a club on opponents. Some Culinary Huntsmen make use of giant frying pans as well.
  • Giant Spoons: One of the most unorthodox weapons a Culinary Huntsman can use is a giant spoon. Often intended as a massive club, this weapon is often used against larger prey.
