Drunken Boxing

Nature: Balanced Origin: Kun'lao Flourish: Messy

A martial arts style taught and developed by the homeless of Kun'lao. It has the highest concentration of adherents in The City of Lost Things. The homeless are some of the most volitile people in society. They are often victim to attacks from both the underworld and the system they live in, and are often not seen as part of society. Because of this, a martial arts system developed overtime for use by vagrants throughout Kun'lao. This is Drunken Boxing, a martial arts that copies the movements of a drunkard rather than an animal. Its users appear volitile, barely capable of standing on their two feet. Those who fall for this ruse will soon fall victim to a flurry of unorthodox offense.

Drunken Boxing uses loose combos of jabs, sweeps, wide kicks, and acrobatic attacks from the ground. It is the very definition of messy, and its users understand that it is a relatively unpredictable style. As such, Drunken Boxing's Flourish is Messy.

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice Drunken Boxing. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Loose movements, luring opponents into the illusion of weakness, and unorthodox offense.

  • Loose Movements: Drunken Boxing is a soft-style martial art, with its users rarely tensing their muscles. Many Drunken Boxers actually do drink before or even during combat in an effort to further loosen their muscles and increase their offensive and defensive capabilities.
  • Unorthodox Offense: Drunken Boxing rarely uses straightforward attacks. The nature of the style is to make the user appear to be fighting like a drunkard. As such, its wild flurries of jabs appear almost like flailling. Users will fall onto their face, only to do a handstand and kick their opponent from the ground. Drunken Boxers may even utilize spin kicks to strike everyone around them.
  • Misdirection: Drunken Boxing relies on the nature of its unorthodox offense to misdirect its opponents. Someone fighting a Drunken Boxer should never be able to predict where the next attack is coming from. A boxer may drop onto the floor, before striking above. They may appear to be running away, only for this to be the set up for a flying kick. The Drunken Boxer may even appear to pass out, only for this to be a ruse to trick their opponent into dropping their guard.

Weapons

Drunken Boxing does not make user of official weapons, it just isn't a very traditional fighting style with a lot of martial background. However, it does teach its uers to make use of improvised weapons.

  • Gourds: Drunken Boxers will often have gourds of alcohol on them, especially if they drink to increase the efficiency of their style. This court can be used to strike at their opponent, and can even be swung at mid-range if the gourd is hanging by a strap.
  • Beer Glasses: Likewise, a Drunken Boxer may be drinking a glass of beer. If this is the case, they may smash these beer glasses over opponents, or smash them into the environment to instead use the glass as an improvised blade.
