Brawling

Nature: Aggressive Origin: Unknown Flourish: Brutal

The lack of formal training does not mean a lack of fighting prowess. Sometimes, a life of hardship and a bit of grit is all it takes to produce a powerful fighter. Brawling is not a formal martial art, but rather a blanket term for how untrained street fighters battle it out. Really, an individual's style of "brawling" can vary from anything to two-fisted fisticuffs to a crude style of combat that involves misdirection and sneak attacks. While many in the Wulin look down on brawlers, believing they lack honor and any real formal training to be considered worthy of Wulin, the results of the world's greatest street fighters cannot be denied.

In the end, brawling can really be defined as a blanket term for a gruesome street fighting style of combat practiced by bar fighters and thugs. At its least violent, it is still a ruthless style focused on self defense. Brawling doesn't care for honor or tradition, and it certainly doesn't care for the state of the poor sap you're fighting. The tendency for brawlers to lean more towards hyperviolence means that brawling's Flourish is Brutal.

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice brawling. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Do everything and anything it takes to beat your opponent into a pulp.

  • No Rules: Brawling is a fighting style most commonly seen on the rough streets of the seedy underbelly of Prisma. Brawlers will use every trick in the book to beat their opponent into tar. Whether this relies on tricks, cheapshots, or sheer brutality, the last thing a brawler is typically thinking about is any rule or code of honor.
  • Flexibility: Brawling can mean anything! It isn't a formal style, and everyone brawls differently! Some brawlers are lumbering hulks capable of tanking bricks to the head. Others are cheating goblins capable of stabbing anyone in the back. Every brawler is different, and their expertise can vary!
  • Anything is a Weapon: If there is one consistent element to brawling, its that brawlers are willing to do anything to win, and that they'll use their environment if that's what it takes to win. They'll use improvised weapons, managing to turn anything from a brick to a lamp into a lethal tool of violence.

Weapons

Brawling is a style built around using anything and everything to win. So of course, weapons are never off the table.

  • Baseball Bats: Baseball bats are cheap, easy to find, and make for efficient bludgeoning weapons. To the surprise of no one, they're a popular tool for one to bring into street fights.
  • Chains: Brawlers will often use chains that they find off the streets and just whip them out at their opponents, likely cutting them up in the process. If they're feeling particularly creative, they may even want to choke someone out with one!
  • Wrenches: A favorite of mechanics who get into street scuffles, although really some brawlers just like how light yet deadly a wrench can be. Wrenches are easy to hide, and easy to smash someone's head in with.
