Boxing

Nature: Balanced Origin: Unknown Flourish: Reeling

As long as mankind has existed, there has been record of fist fighting competition. There has been archaeological proof of boxing even going back to Pre-Shattering times. Boxing is typically a form of martial arts in which fighters only use their fists, using a wide variety of punching techniques mixed with complex legwork. Although boxing is practiced all over the world and there are numerous professional boxing leagues, Avalon and Valentine are the nations most associated with modern boxing.

Boxing is mostly associated with highly athletic fighters delivering complex combos of punches, and they're capable of hitting hard and also knowing when to just wear their opponent down. Because of their ability to send their opponents into a daze with effective combos or hard-hitting uppercuts, Boxing has the Reeling Flourish.

Core Principles

There are a few key elements to those who practice Boxing. These elements are central to the martial art's key concept: Delivering intense combos of punches while either using dazzling footwork to avoid harm or building a physique capable of taking blows.

  • Wide Variety of Punches: Boxers have access to a toolset of different punches that they can utilize: Jabs, uppercuts, crosses, and hooks, to name a few. While this offense is limited in the big scope of things, boxers are capable of using numerous combos of these punches to great effect.
  • Physical Specimen: Boxers are expected to train their bodies to great efficiency, with most professional boxers in particular being considered extremely well conditioned. They usually have unmatched stamina and a physique to match.
  • Complex Footwork: It's a common misconception that boxers only know how to use their fists to fight. In truth, one can say that boxers do "kick," but that their style is built around "kicking the ground." Boxing prioritizes legwork to outmaneuver and rushdown opponents with ease.

Weapons

Boxing is not focused on weapon use, as it has a focus on professional combat under highly-regulated rulesets. With that said, there are some weapons associated with boxing.

  • Brass Knuckles: Most associated with underworld boxers who battle it out in seedy clubs. Of course, brass knuckles are a great self defense tool for a fighter that can throw a good punch as well.
  • Weighted Gloves: Boxers often make use of padded gloves as a means of avoiding serious harm to their opponents. While this is an act of goodwill, some particularly heinous boxers will purposely add weights or bits of metal to their gloves to increase their punching power. A heinous cheat, but an effective one.
