The Boom

The Boom Once a month (change) from the depths of the pillar comes a warm gust of air. The coming of this gust is first acknowledged through the sound of an explosion, a boom. Five minutes (change) after this boom, the gust follows. A strong breeze of warm air passes through and heats the lower layers for almost an hour. In the lower levels this warmth is cause for celebration, The Festival of Flight, a celebration the all ready warm upper layers don't acknowledge.
Hypothesis At some point, past the freezing depths of the pillar is a blazing warmth. This pocket of warmth heats the air around it. Upon this lays a bed of cool condensed air from the lower regions of the pillar. Naturally the hot air wishes to escape upward and as these forces collide the pressure of the hot expanding air builds until it explodes through the cold air. The process of the high velocity air escaping results in the sound of a sonic boom that travels ahead of the gust of hot air. By the time the hot air reaches the lower layers of the city however it is no longer powerful or hot enough to do damage.
